So, you guys, I’ve discovered a little mom secret that makes life so much easier and I’m sharing it here in this post in partnership with Aquaphor.
The thing is, you probably already know about this mom secret! I mean, I’ve even talked about it before, although in a different context.
Since I live in Florida, I often have a “summer go bag” ready. You know, swimsuits, towels, sunscreen; anything (within reason and within the confines of a small bag) we might need to enjoy an impromptu water opportunity, be it the pool, the beach, splashpark, etc.
But this one, this mom secret, is a little different and can be a mommy-sanity saver, no matter the season.
As a mom of four littles, and one still in diapers, I pretty much always have that quintessential mom bag with me.
You might even be nodding your head in agreement right now as you mentally check your mental list of items you add to your own mom bag; snacks, diapers, wipes, pain reliever… just a few items at the top of the list. 😉
The essence of life on the go means that items in said mom bag get used, and sometimes they even get used without my knowledge or I forget to restock on my way out the door.
I’m sure you’ve been there — you arrive at your destination after an effort that feels equivalent to organizing a covert operation. The questions have all been answered, “Where are my shoes? Why is he sitting in the middle this time? Can I go to the bathroom now? Where is the baby’s pacifier?”
Everyone is dressed (yes, with four kids sometimes this is an accomplishment in itself) and you’re actually on time. Then the moment you dreaded happens — you smell a dirty diaper and your mom bag has already been picked over… no fresh nappies in sight.
I remember it like it was yesterday.
In fact, I remember snapping a photo and posting to social media because it was that momentous an occasion and it didn’t happen until I was on my third child. Still, I can’t figure out how it came to be, but one thing is certain, sometimes “mom brain” means reminding yourself to just keep breathing and get to where you’re going.
We were at Target, me with my three wee ones, and as I was strapping my littlest into the cart I realized my child was without pants.
Yes, you read that right, NO pants. Thankfully he had a diaper. And shoes. And on that note of thankfulness, we were in a store where I could buy more pants; but I think more than the actual lack of pants was the surprise that we actually made it out of the house, into the car, and into a store before I realized my son was pants-less.
That, my friends, is the shocker.
What does this have to do with this mom secret and our go bag?
Things happen. Life happens. Accidents happen. We try to be prepared.
As parents, as mothers, we all want the best for our littles and will do whatever we can to take care of them; Still, there will be times we find ourselves in a parking lot with an exploding diapers and no replacements.
My mom secret is this – I’ve got my own separate go bag, my own stash hidden in the car, completely separate from the diaper bag.
I know, at first blush it doesn’t seem like much of a secret, but I’m telling you this; it comes in handy at just the right moment and can save your sanity (and your babe’s bum) when you’re out and about.
That time you run out for errands and forget you switched bags, that moment you need a wipe because you used the last one in the diaper bag, that day you decided to give up coffee and have a crazy headache and need a pain reliever. Oh wait, that last one may never happen; I’m not a quitter. 😉
Really though, it’s easy to put together an Emergency Diaper Kit for the car, a separate kind of go-bag.
Just gather up all of the supplies you may need for a few emergencies and tuck it away where little hands won’t get into it. I want to make sure I have what I need to properly take care of my little ones, whether at home or on the go, and this Emergency Diaper Kit is just a little mommy confidence booster knowing that at least physically, I’ve got it covered.
So next time you’re restocking your diaper bag, grab a few extra essentials and tuck them away in the car for a “rainy” day.
My mom secret Emergency Diaper Kit essentials:
- I started with a handy little zippered storage pouch. This one is actually a travel container and it holds just the right amount while still tucking snugly under my car seat.
- Next I added our favorite diapers and wipes, as well as sanitizing wipes for little hands and spills.
- Because I want to make sure I have what I need on hand for my babe’s skin, I also added in Aquaphor Baby’s new Fast Relief Diaper Rash Paste because it relieves discomfort in just one use while also being hypoallergenic and free of parabens, talc, and fragrances. At home and especially when we’re on the go, we need something that works quickly, and the fact that it goes on easily is a plus as well! I had the chance to try out this new diaper paste for the past couple of months and have really loved how quickly it clears up any redness. As a blogger, and even as a mom, I’ve used all kinds of creams and keep a stash of my favorites, and this is the first one I reach for now. Even this past week when Aria started getting a rash, I knew I wanted to grab the one that would soothe her skin quickly and something that’s easy to apply when she’s squirming from the discomfort. If I’m noticing redness and apply a squeeze of Fast Relief Diaper Rash Paste, her skin is clear by the next nappy change! Needless to say, it’s also the one I keep stocked in my Emergency Diaper Kit.
- Then add in a few extras. Is your babe used to a pacifier? Stash an extra. Add in an extra bodysuit or tee rolled up tight and maybe even stash a hair clip.
Actually, I’d love to hear if you already have an Emergency mom secret Diaper Kit stored away in your car or what you’d add to yours if you did create one! Share in the comments below!

I need to do this with extra sets of clothes for my kids. We’ve had several emergency trips to a store for extra clothes due to unexpected accidents and I’m never prepared.
