In our new Fresh Essentials baby friendly series, we’re sharing recipes for essential products that we use on the daily, like this all-natural healing diaper cream for baby made with essential oils!
I’ve long been an essential oil user, and while I’m definitely not an expert, I have found SO many ways to use them in our day to day lives. There are options that arise all the time for us to replace essential products with our own, easy to make versions and this diaper cream for baby is one that really helps keep our babe baby soft and free from rash and redness.
From carrying our sanitizing spray wherever we go to deep cleaning (have your refreshed your mattress yet for the New Year?!), essential oils really can be another way to boost our health and immune systems and replace items that we use on the regular with better ingredients.
While there are certainly a number of products that I use and buy (and especially when traveling, I’ve forgotten items and have to grab something, so there are a lot of great brands to use!), I also love that I can whip up something easily at home that works just as well or even better… and I know EXACTLY what’s in it!
All-Natural Diaper Cream for Baby with Essential Oils
- Organic Coconut Oil
- Melaleuca Essential Oil
- Lavender Essential Oil
- Frankincense Essential Oil (optional)
- Organic Beeswax (optional)
For this super simple and easy to make, all-natural diaper cream for baby, just whip 1/2 cup of coconut oil in a mixer for a couple of minutes until whipped and frothy, then just add in 2 drops of each essential oil and stir together. Store in a jar or sealable container and use as needed. This diaper cream is not only great for rashes, but soothing and healing for any cuts, scrapes, burns or other skin ailments.
I usually whip the coconut oil, stir in the oils, place in my container and let set in the fridge for a could of hours to solidify again. Since it is coconut oil, it will liquefy at warmer temperatures. If you want a smoother yet more solid/creamy (I know that doesn’t really make sense) consistency that wont liquefy as easily, you can add beeswax to the mixture. For this, using your jar over boiling water or in double boiler, melt down 1/2 ounce of beeswax. Stir to make sure it’s creamy and add in the 1/2 cup of coconut oil. Remove from heat and stir in the essential oils and let cool.
Together these oils combat rash, bacteria and infections, soothe, calm and help to heal and moisturize the skin. A win in my book!
