This fun kid-approved, kid friendly trail mix puppy chow doubles as a fun, rainy day DIY activity for the kids giving them their own personalized snack while keeping them entertained! This post is sponsored by Disney Junior. This summer Iām excited to partner with them to bring you a series of simple recipes inspired by fun FRiYAY programming!
It’s been rainy here lately, and though it’s the nature of these summer months, the downpours have been more than usual. We’ve been needing the rain, the parched ground laying in wait for this rain to come, but the kids are still feeling the effects. Stir crazy is just one way to describe it. These hot and humid summer days call for something a little more, and no I’m not talking about the crazy, curly volume my hair reaches during these summer storms. As much I feel like my little ones double as fish, looking to get wet on a daily basis whether it’s playing in the rain or splashing in the pool; there are also those times they just want to stay dry for awhile, and indoors.
These are the days when great indoor activities become paramount, so that everyone inside stays happy, including mom! #AmIRight? With a simple kid friendly trail mix puppy chow we had fun making our own trail mix snack bags inspired by one of our favorite Friday morning kid’s shows on Disney Junior, Puppy Dog Pals! It’s a way to kick off the weekend with an activity that also gives us a snack as we curl up together to watch the cutest little superhero pugs work together on missions… like fighting the summer heat too!
To make Kid Friendly Trail Mix Puppy Chow, just gather up items you have on hand or that you know your kids love! The best part is that there is no right or wrong way to pull this activity and resulting goodie bags together. I just set out a couple bowls of dry cereal (and chose a couple that kind of looked like a “puppy food”), raisins, yogurt covered raisins, pretzels, some dog bone shaped graham crackers I found (score!!) and a little bowl of mini candies because my son had some and we wanted to use them up! Once we had it all set up, I spent some individual time with my kiddos, and especially with Skylar who is the biggest fan of the Puppy Dog Pals pugs! He scooped and poured into his mixing bowl, made cannonball drops with the marshmallows and counted the pretzels… and talked my ear off during it all. I have to say, just this little bit of one-on-one time was so special to the both of us! It may sound strange, but just a handful of precious moments made me fall in love with him all over again, and that focused attention helped his sweet personality blossom even more.
I’m learning that it doesn’t take much to create a space for the moments that fill our memory banks to happen. Sure we love our travel adventures (and have quite a bit more planned soon!), we love exploration, we love water play… but sometimes it’s just taking a small extra step and allowing for a few uninterrupted minutes together to make snack time special before a cuddle during a favorite show.
With our DIY Trail Mix Puppy Chow station still set up, we all created our own bags of trail mix goodies… even Aria joined in the fun! And now we’re all set this summer to put the YAY in FRiYAY by tuning in for the premiers of our fave Disney Junior shows as they premier every Friday morning first on the Disney channel, before we head outside for the waterworks. š
What’s your favorite way to kick-off the weekend with your family?! Do you have a favorite show to watch together before you start your weekend festivities?

I have been loving trail mix lately- ever since I delivered my daughter 4 months ago. My oldest is always stealing my pumping snacks so I should make this with her.
