We’re sharing all about our Olympic inspiration and teaching our babies to swim in this sponsored post for SheSpeaks/P&G.
“I want to swim like my big brodoh,” he said through that big grin and I knew it was time. That moment is still vividly engrained in my own memory banks… sitting on the stairs in the shallow end of a pool just praying I could swim like my big brothers. I was three, and that was the time I learned to swim. Our little Skylar just turned three, and he’s so close, he can taste it. We’re teaching our babies to swim and he’s swimming for the gold.
Okay, so forgive my Olympic puns, but it’s also part of what’s inspiring us right now. With our passion for water, my littles and I have been cheering team USA in The Olympic Games as they breaststroke their way through the lane and you can hear the audible gasps and squeals with each flip turn moving them closer to the gold, or further away. The swimmers and the gymnasts, our two favorite categories to watch and cheer this year. And Dana Vollmer, girl, I’m applauding you!
You know how Facebook has the memories feature that pops up and reminds you of days gone by? Recently I came across this gem of Skylar experiencing those underwater swims at one year old, and I fully believe that starting them young is SO great in creating a confident and comfortable environment around water! Since I’ve always loved any form of it, be it pool, lake or ocean (the former and latter being my two favorites!), it was easy for me to get my kids into it at a young age.
Just creating an experience so they can be a little familiar with the water is a great help in teaching our babies to swim.
So here we are, at it again with our youngest two. As we watch and root for our US Olympic team, we’re also enthusiastically creating and recreating our own golden moments. It’s SO much more fun to see it all in action, so we even played with our GoPro to make a little underwater movie magic. Okay, so we still need a lot more playing with it to be good, but really it was just strapped to my husbands head as we splashed with these wee ones in the water, and every time I watch, it makes me smile that big, proud mama smile.
Oh, and you know what else swimming does? It totally wears them out. My secret for great naps and nighttime sleeps.
To keep my girl dry when out of the water, our favorite diaper has been Pampers (seriously, my favorite commercial brand to use for all of my babies, it was the only one that didn’t cause rashes on Aliyah!). With the liner that pulls wetness and mess away from her skin (a game changer) and a wetness indicator that changes color when it’s time… it’s so much better than having to do the dreaded “sniff test.” And to keep her little bum covered when in the water, we’ve been using their swim diapers this summer as well. I can just order online to have the diapers I need delivered right to my door, and buy the brands that support Team USA through every P&G purchase at Walmart. Totally loving that I’m getting the items I need and already use while supporting my team too! Yep, Team USA, we are on that comfortable of a basis that I can call you my team. 🙂
I’m not sure what the future brings for my little ones, or yours… but one thing I’m passionate about is empowering them whatever it may be. Right now? That looks a little like this. Finding things they love and enjoy and taking the time doing it with them, showing them the way, like teaching our babies to swim. Whatever it is, #letspowertheirdreams.
