Sauced. Juiced. Laced. Glazed. Tipsy. Three sheets to the wind.
Ok, I don’t know where that last one came from, but it works, I guess.
I’m sorry, my sweet baby, that you’re now high and acting rather strangely.
Our day started like this:
We woke up (usually how we begin most mornings).
Baby Blue has a doctor’s appointment… this is her regular well-baby visit, but we were going to talk to him about how she’s been feeling as well.
We are getting ready to go soon, and Baby Blue walks out of the kitchen holding an EMPTY bottle of Children’s Tylenol Plus Cold!!
Where did she ever manage to get this from and how did she open it??? I was speechless.
Once I regained some composure, I asked if she drank it and she simply said, “Yes.”
We need to be at the doctors office soon, so we pack up and head over a little early. They check her out, everything seems fine… acting her normal self, and screaming when they try to touch her… yep, she’s fine. We call Poison Control as well. They go through all the ingredients listed, figure out how much she took, and continue with the questions. She now is falling asleep in the car, but wakes up soon and still knows who we are, yep, she’s fine. A little drowsy, but fine.
Poison Control reassures me that she will be drowsy from the cold medication, since she took well over a 24 hour dose in one foul swoop, but as long as she’s playing fine… and she is… then she’s ok.
Nap time rolls around and she plays in her bed through the entire 2 hours in her room. Never falls asleep. Now, she’s acting strangely.
Wrestling the cat and saying, “Ow, Ow” as the cat paws at Baby Blue’s head… but they continue on. She’ll stand in the middle of the hallway in a trance and then get a silly grin across her face. She stops and stares. Walks and falls. Acts numb to any circumstance, and walks around making strange noises and gestures. I know she’ll be fine. But if anyone knows how to sober up a kid… let me know. Right now, I’ve got her on a carb load.
Hopefully she remembers this in her more mature years, and stays away from the sauce!

OMGoodness. When marla told me I was like WHAT? I’m glad she is fine, but weird she didn’t take a nap, LOL.

Oh the horror! You see, it is stuff like this that makes US MOMS reach for the bottle ourselves. It is only because she is okay that I am laughing hysterically right now. Of course you will remember this forever while she’s already forgotten it. But… how did she open it? I can’t open those things without banging it on the counter and giving it a few choice words.
KDLOST says
WOAH.
That’s so wild! You know, LL finds random things all of the time… it’s impossible to keep kids out of everything.
Hope BB is feeling more sobered up and that she doesn’t have a hangover later!!

This is cracking me up. My little man won’t even take medicine when it is necessary and especially not voluntarily. However, when he was a baby he used to cry for more Tylenol. I would say give her a healthy dose of coffee…but seeing that you don’t want her to be bouncing off the walls, maybe that’s not such a good idea. Hopefully, she’ll conk out soon and wake up feeling refreshed and more like herself.
…it’s still funny.
Felicia Eis says
ROFL wow that is funny. I am sorry that you had to go through that. Goodness I can just see my little girl doing that. Hopefully she doesn’t.

Tabitha, I don’t want to alarm you, but my little “A” had a seizure 18 months ago after taking a childrens cold medicine. Just watch her closely. Ours was Pediacare for stuffy noses and coughs. However, I was told this could happen with any OTC childrens cold medicine. Apparently I didn’t give her the correct dosage. This happened 6 months before they issued that huge recall on children’s medicines.

WHAT??? NO PICTURES??? hahahaha just kidding!! I hope the little one ‘recovers’ *snickers* ok…LOL

Oh lawsie! I wondered where the heck you were!
It had to be scary for momma, but the thought of your cute lil girl walkin’ around all sauced made me giggle once I found out she was ok.
Hope she doesn’t have a hangover tomorrow :/
-Jess
PS…How about a video of the sauced baby? 😉 hehe, I kid I kid

It is SO scary when your kids get into something that they shouldn’t. Isn’t is just lovely to have poison control to call for reassurance? Been there, done that!
Erin, Nick and Merrick says
Oh no! Poor thing!!
I would have freaked out- glad you maintained control!
Earthmommy says
Been there done that too. My oldest (now 19) would eat anything, and did. DD#2 (now 16) stuck keys in live outlets not once, but twice in her toddler years. Once was, get this…IN the doc’s office. DD#3, now 3 is much more cautious! Glad she’s ok.

Something similar happened to me when I was painting my laundry room and my 1 yr old curious dude decided to eat tons of paint….I’m sure I am on the MOST WANTED wall at the poison control center because there was also an incident of me putting ear drops in his eyes…Goodness, I sound like a horrible parent! I just wanted you to know that you are not alone and we all have issues like this! I am glad she is OK. And a good stiff cup of coffee might help (Ha, DO NOT take parenting advice from me)!

Hey Tab, it’ll all be good… Your dad used to get loaded on cough surup too… and I turned out fine… except the part about standing and staring in a trance and then laughing… do it all the time…LOL Peace, dad

Poor Baby Blue…wait on second thought, this is probably pretty fun for her! 😛
I am sorry though over the worry that must have went though you. I had a moment like that when Noah fell off our bed and his neck seemed to bend in half. But, he ended up fine.
Kids are resilient that that I guess!
April says
Aw, that’s scary! Hope she’s back to herself soon.
Stacey Muir says
Oh no… lol… Hope she’s all better and sleeping like a baby. btw, thanks for the encouragement yesterday. 😉

Poor little thing – it is a little funny – now, but surely not in the middle of it all. We, too, have a little drinker – a few calls to poison control – one emergency room visit – so far, he is still with us – thank heavens. I don’t know how they can open those “child proof” bottles, but they do – stinkers.
LeLe says
OMGosh! This cracks me up. And strangely I’m a little jealous of her drunkeness at the moment. Sounds like a ball! J/K Glad that she’ll be fine… as soon as it wears off. LOL!
Zesty Cook says
Oh WOW – -that must have been scary. Keep me posted on how she is doing. I am sure she will be ok.
