I’m so grateful for the outpouring of loved ones to share in our modern and glam mint, pink and gold gender reveal party, as well as be a part of our very first event in the in-process and under construction Fresh Collective studio!
I slid the sealed envelope into my purse at the doctor’s office that day. “Just a little over two weeks,” I whispered to myself and tried to let it slip out of my mind so that I wouldn’t be tempted to open it.
We went to meet with the baker that day.
I know the thought of a reveal party, or even finding out the sex of the baby, can seem silly to some, and I totally understand that sentiment as well. To me? I say, let’s celebrate! You guys, there is nothing more special and more precious to celebrate than life, each and every part of it. After having gone through miscarriages between my darling little ones, I jump at the chance to make each moment a special one. And to have loved ones surrounding us and with us? Well, that’s just the fun of living life together!
So come together we did, in our almost-ready and under-construction studio space, Fresh Collective, under a canopy of lights and with sprinkles of mint, pink and flashes of glamorous gold. As friends and family poured in through the doors, my heart overflowed. There really is nothing like living life together, through the ups and the downs. Rejoicing together, crying together. Celebrating together. This was a day of celebration, for a couple of my babies on the way, the one snuggled up and receiving the very necessity of life from me, and the one that was once just a dream and now being birthed this year.
Since we can’t have a proper celebration without plenty of food, we made good on that with an array of hors d’oeuvres, starting with something I still make on an almost weekly basis… this delicious fresh herb white bean hummus recipe. It’s really not hummus, I just like that word better than dip because I use it like hummus with plenty of fresh veggies and pita chips to dip! 😉 Then we whipped up some cheesy pesto pull-apart bread, cinnamon brown sugar popcorn, a super simple finger-food cheese plate, caramel cream cheese dip for apples, pears and pretzels and a light almond lemon pound cake (recipes coming soon!!!). Yes, it was good indeed.
To me, it’s always easier to get conversations started with a plate of food in hand. Feed the belly, fill the heart… or something like that 😉
We talked, we laughed, we crafted sweet little baby burp cloths and then it was time to cut into the cake. The moment we’d been waiting for.
Periscope was ready to stream for family back home, kids were quieted and knife in hand, here it was. Would the next chapter of our lives reveal a sweet little girl or sweet little boy in our future. And here’s where the fun really began because anticipation didn’t end with the cutting of the cake. In fact this time, it turned out to be an epic #cakefail. In fact, it’s kind of something you have to see, so go ahead and click here to watch it and come on back, I’ll wait 😉
You guys, the cake was yellow!!
I still laugh every time I see that video or even think about it. Needless to say, the anticipation was drawn out for a bit longer as we figured out a solution. Thankfully the sealed envelope was in my purse from the bakery when we picked the cake up that morning (maybe they didn’t even open it?).
So, on to the second reveal of the day.
WE’RE HAVING A GIRL!!!
And with that, we couldn’t be more thrilled. Also, our family is completely and totally even, how is that happening? Even our Christmas-present kittens are brother and sister, a boy and a girl. When asked if he was excited that the baby is going to be a sister, Brayden’s response was, “Well, it’s even.” My little rational one he is 😉
That night was everything we wanted and more, surrounded by people we love. The best part of life is the fun and joy you can make of it, and it wouldn’t be the same without the people around us that we love and who love us back. THANK YOU to all who came to celebrate life with us and baby Blue number four, and THANK YOU friends for being a part of our lives and for celebrating moments like this with me here.
XO
