There’s been this tradition of ours as of late, as family dinner together ’round the table winds down, our dancing legs wind up. “Alexa, play Can’t Fight the Feeling,” comes rolling off someone’s lips (or whatever song du jour gets the dance party started) and dishes get shimmied to the sink while little legs feel the beat. The twirls around the room bring fits of laughs and I know, no matter what the day brought… the stress, the things left undone, the tears or angry fits, the happy moments and the sad; all is spun to the wayside with each turn around our make-shift dance floor.
It’s the middle of the night and a teething babe is crying out for comfort. Once diaper is checked and she’s fed, many times it’s the sleepy ballet between a heavy-eye mama and her little that soothes, the gentle rocking lulling the pain away.
I missed you today, he says through a sly smile as he pulls me close; away from the cutting board piled high with chopped vegetables in front of me. Though we may be in close proximity, sometimes work can fill the space between us and he quickly closes that gap in one smooth motion before spinning me out and pulling me back in close again. With each step the stress falls off my shoulders and I’m reminded of what’s important… reminded of what (and who) is right in front of me.
Dancing has found it’s way into our lives in so many ways. Through tears and through smiles, through the highs and through the lows. So as we prance our way into Spring, into the fresh new days bouncing with life, I wanted to share this reminder to dance into the dreams you’ve laid. Think of where you want to be and then kick up your heels and one-step or two-step, a little at a time, in the direction of your goals this season!
