It was as if our steps transported us back in time. With each kick of the pavement, memories from fourteen years prior swirled about. The same wooden slats of the covered bridge. The same trot of horse pulled carriages. The same scent of fresh popcorn and fudge wafting through the flower lined streets.

These were the moments and memories that one marriage and four kids later, we wanted to journey through with them. It was the place Chris proposed, on a boat causally drifted down the river. We wanted to relive these special times through the eyes of our kids, so while in Michigan this past weekend on our #BlueSummerTour, we headed to Frankenmuth, home of the fried chicken dinner. And a delicious, filling, family-style fried chicken dinner we had. After walking along the wood covered bridge, after taking in a carriage ride, after ducking in and out of the quaint shops along the streets and telling story after story of that day fourteen years prior.
We could have spent all evening strolling through town, however this time, we shied away from the late afternoon rain and made a run for the car… well, after we danced in it a bit first! With full bellies and full memory banks we called it a day. But I have to say, it’s one that will make a lasting mark… just like it did the first time around.
By the way, we pulled a few red, white and blue items for an Americana style round up. I love the looks for the Fourth… and I really like that most items are not so overly patriotic, that they can be paired with other details and worn all throughout the year… but together, it’s a full on patriotic family style!

Wow! These pics are beautiful. It’s so funny that my family drove from Florida to Michigan during 4th of July weekend just last year to visit my family too. We actually watched the spectacular fireworks show on the 4th in Frankenmuth! Such a small world!
