We celebrated our sweet and sticky girl with a sweet and sticky ice cream social birthday party, full of all things delicious and precious, sugar-coated and cute… just like our littlest one.
As more kiddos are added to our clan, it’s not quite as easy to pull together a birthday party. Time is precious… the hours may be long, but the days are most definitely short. Add in a home remodel with packing and moving, and some of those things you most want, like a celebration of life, can tend to take a backseat. Or at least, you plan on planning it and then realize the week before her actual birthday that you have yet to plan it. This is why I’m so grateful for friends that I can text and say, “Aria is turning ONE on Saturday, come on over for cake and ice cream”… and they show up!
And can I just say that Skylar’s birthday is just FIVE days after hers. Yikes! We took him out for a celebratory dinner on his birthday, but the party? Well, that hasn’t happened yet… but it’s coming. An extended celebration of sorts. π
Okay, so back to this one. I know she’s just ONE. I know Aria won’t remember all the little details. I know she doesn’t know all this party entailed. But, oh did this girl know that she was celebrated! She knew she was loved on, honored and blessed. She knew she was the center of attention; and as much as I want to just eat her up on a daily basis, she was eating it all up this day, taking it all in.
From the Ice Cream cake to Ice Cream favors… it was most definitely sweet, precious, sugar-coated and oh so sticky; just like Aria is.
The rundown for our Ice Cream Social Birthday Party:
This whole party came about because we scored a new ice cream machine and wanted to make some fresh, homemade ice cream. You guys, the recipe is coming soon because it was the most delicious, creamy strawberry ice cream I’ve ever had. Seriously… ever!
Then, with the idea of an ice cream social in mind, we painted these DIY Painted Waffle Cone Ice Cream Flower Pots. Then, made some cute and whimsical little Ice Cream Cone balloons, which the kids absolutely loved. Like, the balloons (including Aria’s giant balloon on her high chair) we’re the best presents! She (and all the other kids) played with them endlessly… we still have some laying around.
When it comes to decorating and setting up the party though, we didn’t make everything ice cream centered. I just found a color palette I liked, and kept it pretty soft and sweet, and then found details that fit within the scheme. With our mostly pastel theme, I found plates, more balloons and a few party favors to match. All of it came together so well for some sweet whimsy to our space.
Since I didn’t want to plan out major activities or games, I opted for an activity station and stocked a kid’s table with sparkling, glittery play doh, plastic ice cream bowls with spoons and a few kid-friendly, crafty tools. These all kind of doubled as presents for Aria while still being a fun activity for the kids there.
We had such a great time… and in bowls of ice cream and cake! π But most importantly, this little one, this precious life, this one that continues to change me daily; she was celebrated.
