Wondering how to use Lavender Essential Oil in your everyday life? Today we’re sharing some top-used benefits and uses you need to know!
I would argue that Lavender Essential Oil is one of, if not the most useful essential oil in the world. I think everyone should have some in their homeopathic medicine cabinet. That’s why I’m bringing you this list with just some of the best Lavender Essential Oil benefits.
And really, it is most-likely one of the first-used oils in our arsenal for just about everything, especially with kids around!
Over my years of using essential oils, I genuinely believe you can use them as a medication. Don’t get me wrong we still believe in modern medicine, but I also think we are an over-medicated society. Why wouldn’t you try to use natural methods to solve your problems first? Or use natural methods to boost your overall health and vitality while you help prevent issues?
The FDA has not approved essential oils as treatments for illness, but there is growing research on Lavender Essential Oil benefits and the benefits of many other essential oils.
Ask yourself why wouldn’t the FDA review this research or conduct an investigation.
So, let me tell you some of the best benefits.
Taking Essential Oil for Illness
There are several ways you can use essential oils to get their benefits. The first is aromatic. You can use personal inhalers, diffusers, and essential oil jewelry.
Often when we talk about illnesses, we are referring to using your essential oils topically on your skin. There are some that use 100% pure essential oils by ingesting them. I’m not here to talk you into one or the other, though each essential oil is very different, and some are toxic when ingested.
If you want to use essential oils topically, or orally for that matter, you must use a therapeutic grade essential oil. Please, please, please only use safe oils. Although many essential oils you find say they are “pure” it is very unlikely to find a therapeutic grade essential oil in your local storefront.
I get asked which therapeutic grade essential oils I use, a lot. Spark Naturals is the brand I trust for myself and my family. Their essential oils are of great quality, with every batch tested to verify its quality and purity, and the prices are reasonable as well.
Now, let’s get into the spectacular lavender essential oil benefits I’ve been mentioning.
13 Spectacular Lavender Essential Oil Benefits
1) Anxiety and Stress
A study has found that Standard Lavender Oil taken orally can help people who suffer from an anxiety disorder. The awesome part is that Lavender Oil has a calming effect without sedation, as well as a lack of dependence, tolerance, or withdrawal. These are great benefits without the laundry list of side effects that most medications have.
You can use Lavender Essential Oil in almost any way to help relieve stress, but MY favorite is to use it in a diffuser or room spray and also applied to the bottom of the feet and back of the neck.
2) Insomnia
Insomnia can be extremely frustrating. Studies are finding that essential oil used aromatically helps people fall asleep, sleep deeper, and longer. To avoid oil stains on your sheets you can use Lavender Essential Oil near your bed in a diffuser or by placing a few drops on a piece of cloth rested on your pillow.

3) Wounds
A study found that Lavender Essential Oil promotes the healing of tissue. Mix a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil with a small amount of fractionated coconut oil (you want a higher than normal % dilution) and dab it directly on you scrape or cut with a cotton ball.
“French chemist and scholar René-Maurice Gattefossé discovered the virtues of the essential oil of lavender. Gattefossé badly burned his hand during an experiment in a perfumery plant. Just one rinse with lavender essence (lavender essential oil) stopped “the gasification of the tissue. He was later amazed at how quickly his burn healed and with very little scarring. This started a fascination with essential oils and inspired him to experiment with them during the First World War on soldiers in the military hospitals.”

And a bonus is Lavender Essential Oil can help reduce scars as well, so keep on using it after the wound heals.
4) Menstrual Cramps
A study showed that using massage oil with Lavender Essential Oil will ease menstrual cramps. No, it’s not just the massage part since the placebo oil did not have the same effect.
To use Lavender Essential Oil for menstrual cramps put some in a carrier oil and massage it into your abdomen and lower back. If your partner or spouse will give you a massage I bet it would be even better!
5) Cold Sores
A couple of the Lavender Essential Oil benefits are that it has antimicrobial and antifungal properties. These properties may help prevent cold sores in the first place. If you do have a cold sore it may help reduce pain and inflammation of the affected area.
Dilute Lavender Essential Oil in a carrier oil of your choice and dab it on the cold sore with a Q-tip. You can start with a low dilution rate and increase until you receive the desired effect.
Lavender Essential Oil is thought to be safe undiluted in small amounts for short periods. You may want to try to use it straight and dabbed directly onto the cold sore with a swab.
6) Acne
The antimicrobial nature of Lavender Essential Oil may help prevent pimples from happening in the first place. You can create a DIY toner by add 10 drops of lavender oil, 4 drops of vitamin-E, and 4 ounces of witch hazel to a spray bottle. Shake before use.
7) Insect Bites
Lavender Essential Oil is one of the few essential oils that are safe to use directly on wounds. This makes it great to use on bites from mosquitos, spiders, bees, and fire ants.
The soothing, pain-relieving, and healing properties are some of the Lavender Essential Oil benefits that make it the perfect choice for bites.
8) Dandruff and Itchy Scalp
You can dilute this oil with a carrier oil, such as jojoba or fractionated coconut oil and massage it into your scalp while in the shower. After 5 to 10 minutes rinse the solution out.
9) Hair Growth
Lavender Essential Oil benefits include an amazing effect on hair growth. One study found it to be just as effective as over the counter hair growth products, but safer. In fact, I have to tell you to check out my thorough post on DIY hair growth oil.
I also have a recipe for a spray-on DIY hair growth oil I like to use that is much lighter than using straight oil.

10) Fungal Infections
Lavender Essential Oil is a potent anti-fungal and has even been shown to combat the incidence of antifungal-resistant infections.
Dilute Lavender Essential Oil in a 1% to 5% ratio with a carrier oil and rub it onto the affected area. You should see evidence of improvement within 48 hours.
11) Headache
A study looked at the inhalation of Lavender Essential Oils to treat migraines and found it to be effective. There are a couple of philosophies on using essential oils for headaches and migraines.
The first is to use it diluted topically under the nose, at the base of your neck, or on your temples. But this does run the risk of not being able to get rid of the scent easily if it isn’t working for you.
If you want to use these oil benefits aromatically for migraines you can diffuse it for 10 minutes or try using a personal inhaler to easily cap it and stop the scent if it becomes an issue.
12) Sunburn
By now you are catching on to how to use Lavender Essential Oils for most of your health issues. For sunburns we dilute the essential oil in aloe vera gel we keep chilled in the fridge. This really helps with inflammation and pain relief.
If you or a child is having difficulty sleeping from sunburn discomfort try using Lavender Essential Oil in a diffuser for the calming, antianxiety effect.
“The nurses were kind and understanding, explaining everything to me, and allowing me to put the lavender on my son who lay there, swollen to three times his wee size and unrecognizable as my son… Mr Quaba, top Plastic Surgeon in Britain, says that he cannot believe the speedy recovery that Cairan has made.”

13) Diaper Rash
Yes, you can safely use a lavender hydrosol on your little one’s bottom. Hydrosols are approximately 99.95% water and due to the distilling process, the molecules of the essential oil remain dissolved in the water. Just keep some in a spray bottle near your changing area and spritz your littles freshly wiped tushy.
