She whispered in the dark of the early morning, before the sun’s warmth bathed the windows, “Mommy, remember what today is?” I could hear the excitement in her voice even before I squinted my eyes open. She was smiling. Waiting.
Today was the first day of a week long arts day camp. I don’t think she fully knew what to expect. In fact, I know she didn’t. For a few days she’d ask if they were going to tell camp stories, and then I realized she was thinking of camp as being a “camping trip” with stories told ’round a crackling fire. Once she learned it wasn’t a camping trip, she’d ask if it was like prison, with chains like in a dungeon.
Seriously, where does this stuff come from? No more princess movies for awhile.
She’s since returned from her first day of camp, smiling from twirling in practice for their dance recital on Friday night, damp suit and towel in her bag after splashing in the sun and very happy to confirm that there were NO CHAINS.
All I heard? My little girl is excited to be at camp and I think that means I’m old.

She has such a pretty smile, makes you want to smile too!
Ok, she had me laughing about the camp and chains. Hehe, maybe some kids feel that way about camp?? Too funny!

Such joy! They go ‘forth’ and experience…and return to share their findings! And learning with them keeps us young!

She looks so grown up! Aaahhhh…it’s flying by so fast now I can’t believe it!

Oh my, what a beautiful set of photos and a cute story to boot. I love when they have an experience like that — even if it does make me pause about how fast we’re all growing up.

How precious! She could learn worse things from princess movies…such as kissing frogs and poisoning apples!
