Summer officially ends in less than two weeks and whether you’re the type that sprints into September and the coming fall with vigor or you saunter while wistfully mourning the end of a continual tan and sea-salt locks, we’re all headed in the same direction. So while it’s still crazily hot here and feeling like summer, I’m embracing the fall mindset, and starting the season with some new color and a fresh look.
Now, when I first posted these photos above, it was in the midst of the summer heat and my lightened locks, and I received tons of requests for a tutorial on how I achieved this look.
Today, I’m sharing my new color for fall along with a video tutorial on how I achieved this look. Which, by the way, is a perfect look for days when you don’t want to look like a grease-ball, or when you’ve got a head of curls and texture that needs to be dealt with stat.
Plus, since I recently color-treated my hair, and especially since it’s such a vibrant color that can easily fade, I wanted to use something to help that color last as long as possible. (Because even though I found a salon I absolutely LOVE, I can’t go there more than necessary.) Enter Nexxus Color Assure.
Nexxus Color Assure is the first oil infused color protection system by Nexxus and it work in four parts: a pre-wash primer, sulfate free shampoo, conditioner, and a glossing tonic. All of these products work together to keep your hair color looking bright and vibrant up to 2x longer after your salon visit, which is a plus for me, since I literally only color my hair once or twice a year (if that!) so I need it to last as long as possible. The infusion of clear oils (meaning great for my blond friends as well!) of argan oil, almond oil, coconut oil, and white orchid extract in the is a big deal for me with naturally dry, course hair because it locks in moisture, adds shine and vibrancy, increases softness, and seals and protects hair by repelling water from entering its core. At first, it was a little strange for me to put an oil in my hair before I washed it, for one, because I wanted to make sure it was getting clean and also, because I wasn’t sure the point of putting a product in my hair that was just going to be washed right out, but I will say it… this stuff works! My color is staying strong and my color treated locks are becoming softer as well! And don’t worry, even while using the , water still gets to the hair strands and they get clean. Just apply a few pumps to hair before showering and work it into hair from the ends up, if your hands are greasy after applying the Primer, then you’ve applied too much. For best results, follow the Pre-Wash Primer with andand finish with.
Since this Fall is all about spicy ginger, plum tones and fiery hair colors, using a product designed to give color protection and help that vibrancy up to 2x longer is a necessity in my book, especially when we shell out so much dough to have it done in the first place.

Oh, Tab, it was wonderful. You’d never know it was your first hair tutorial. I will try this with Lucy’s super straight locks and see what it looks like. Also, “My stomach just growled.” – I loved that.

Came over from A Mama Collective. I love the layout of your blog!
I used to do highlights in my hair for many years, but I haven’t done any kind of color for quite awhile. This time of year always makes me long for a change, but I never seem to work up the courage to actually do it…

I hear you… it’s been so long since I’ve played with color much, and this year just has been a fun time of “why not?!” Haha. I’m loving the darker reds for fall right now 😉 you’ll have to let me know if you get color done!
