When our twins turned six, we knew we wanted to do something special. Not just a birthday party, but an adventure they’d remember. With five of our six kids in tow (our oldest was with her Army Reserves Unit), we packed up and headed to Great Wolf Lodge in Florida, and let me tell you—it exceeded every expectation.

If you haven’t heard of Great Wolf Lodge, imagine a massive indoor waterpark resort that’s built specifically with families in mind. No worrying about weather, no sunburns, and everything you need is right there under one roof. It’s the kind of place where kids can run wild and parents can actually relax a little. And after our incredible weekend there, I’m convinced every family should experience it at least once.
But here’s the thing: to really get the most out of your Great Wolf Lodge visit, there are some insider tips that will transform your stay from good to absolutely amazing. After navigating it with our crew, I’ve learned exactly how to maximize the fun while minimizing stress (and costs!).

Why Great Wolf Lodge Should Be on Your Family Travel Radar
Before I dive into all my tips, let me give you the rundown on what makes Great Wolf Lodge so special.
The centerpiece is the massive indoor waterpark with slides, splash areas for little ones, and even lazy rivers. But what sets it apart is that it’s not just about the water. There’s MagiQuest (more on this in a bit!), an arcade, ropes courses, mini golf, character experiences, story time, and nightly dance parties in the lobby. It’s like they took everything kids love and put it all in one place.
For parents, the real magic is how stress-free it is. You’re not hauling beach gear to different locations (though if you do head to the Naples, FL location, you’re not far from GORGEOUS beaches as well!!), coordinating multiple activities, or driving anywhere. You check in once, and your family has days of entertainment right there.

Getting the Most Out of Your Great Wolf Lodge Visit: My Top Tips
Come Early on Check-In Day (Seriously, Don’t Wait!)
This is hands-down my number one tip. Your waterpark access starts the moment you check in, even if your room isn’t ready yet. So yes, even if you arrive around 10 AM when the waterpark opens, this gives you almost a full extra day of fun.
Here’s what to do: Pack a small beach bag or duffle with swimsuits, towels, and a change of clothes for everyone. When you arrive, check in at the front desk, get your waterpark wristbands, and head straight to the changing areas. Your luggage can be stored until your room is ready (usually around 4 PM).
The same goes for checkout day—you can keep playing in the waterpark even after you check out of your room! Just pack that little bag again with suits and fresh clothes so everyone can change before you hit the road. This strategy basically gives you two full days of waterpark time, which is huge when you’re trying to get your money’s worth.

Bring Your Own Food and Snacks (Your Wallet Will Thank You)
One of the best things about Great Wolf Lodge? You’re allowed to bring your own food, snacks, and drinks. And trust me, with a family our size, this is a game-changer.
We packed easy breakfasts (think: bagels, cream cheese, fruit, granola bars), lunch components (sandwich fixings, chips, veggies, hummus), and plenty of snacks. The rooms have mini refrigerators, and there’s a microwave in the common area where you fill up ice buckets.
Our strategy was to handle breakfast and lunch ourselves, then treat the kids to one fun meal or snacks from the resort each day. This way, they had the experience of the on-site restaurants and treats, but we saved probably hundreds of dollars over the course of our stay. Plus, with six kids, having snacks readily available at all times keeps the hangry moments at bay.

The Room Amenities You Need to Know About
Every room has a mini refrigerator, which is perfect for storing your groceries. There’s also a microwave in the hallway where the ice machine is located—just bring your food there to heat it up.
We used the fridge to store milk, juice boxes, sandwich stuff, yogurt, and fruit. It made our mornings so much easier to have breakfast ready to go in the room while we got everyone ready for the day.

Understanding the Activity Passes (And Which One to Choose)
Great Wolf Lodge offers several different activity passes, and figuring out which one is right for your family can save you money.
Wolf Pass:
This gives you access to the water areas, start the Magiquest adventure, some fun treats and you get access the other activities for one pass. It’s perfect if you’re only planning to do activities once.
Family Adventure Pass:
If you think you’ll do the ropes course, mini golf, bowling, or other activities multiple times over your stay, this pass is worth it. We got this one since we were there for a couple of days and wanted to try everything.
Individual Activity Tickets:
You can also just pay per activity if you’re being selective about what you do.
My recommendation? If you’re staying for more than one night and have active kids who want to try everything, go for the Family Adventure Pass. If you’re really just there for the waterpark and maybe one or two other activities, stick with individual tickets or the Wolf Pass.

MagiQuest Wands Are 100% Worth It
I cannot emphasize this enough: Get. The. MagiQuest. Wands.
MagiQuest is an interactive game where kids use special wands to complete quests throughout the resort. They point their wands at various objects and screens to go on an adventure, defeat dragons, and collect treasures. It sounds a little gimmicky, but my kids were OBSESSED.
Here’s why it’s genius: The waterpark doesn’t open until 10 AM. If you’ve got early risers (which, let’s be real, most kids are when they’re excited), MagiQuest gives them something magical to do first thing in the morning. We’d wake up, have breakfast, then the kids would go on their quests for a couple hours before heading to the waterpark.
It also provides a nice break from the water. If anyone needed some downtime or wasn’t feeling the waterpark for a bit, they could go work on their quests. The game spans the entire resort, so it doubles as a way for kids to explore and get some exercise… and believe me, we ALL got a TON of steps in with this.
The wands themselves become a souvenir they’ll actually use and remember. Ours are still playing with them at home, re-enacting their adventures.

Bring Pajamas for Story Time and the Lobby Dance Party
Every night, there’s a story time with the Great Wolf Lodge characters, and it’s absolutely adorable. Kids can come in their pajamas (and many do!), and there’s something so sweet about seeing all these little ones gathered for a bedtime story.
Right after story time, there’s a dance party in the main lobby. It’s high-energy, silly, and so much fun. The characters come out, there’s music, and everyone just lets loose. My kids still talk about this.
Having PJs on makes it easy to transition straight to bed after the dance party, which is perfect when you’ve got tired kids who’ve been going all day.

Download the Great Wolf Lodge App
Before you even arrive, download the resort’s app. It has the daily schedule, character meet-and-greet times, restaurant menus, and a map of the resort. This is essential for planning your days and making sure you don’t miss anything you want to do.
I used it to set reminders for character appearances (my kids were excited to meet Wiley the Wolf), and it helped us plan our meals around the waterpark’s busy times.

What to Pack
Beyond the swimsuits (which they provide towels at the waterpark), here’s what I recommend bringing:
- Waterproof phone case for capturing all those memories
- Reusable water bottles (stay hydrated!)
- Flip flops or water shoes for everyone
- A beach bag that can get wet
- Rashguards if your kids are sensitive to the waterpark slides
- Snacks and easy meal components
- A cooler if you’re bringing items that need to stay cold during the drive
- Cash for the arcade and any additional purchases
- Hand sanitizer and basic first aid supplies

Best Times to Hit the Waterpark
We noticed the waterpark was least crowded first thing in the morning (right when it opens at 10 AM) and during mealtimes. If you want to avoid lines for the big slides, hit them early or plan your lunch around peak times.
Afternoons tend to get busier as families finish checking in and head down. But honestly, even when it was crowded, we never felt like it was overwhelming or that wait times were too long.

The Character Experiences
My kids loved meeting the characters! Wiley the Wolf and his friends are wandering around the resort throughout the day. Check the app for scheduled meet-and-greets, but also keep your eyes open because you’ll often spot them randomly.
The characters are so good with kids—patient, playful, and happy to pose for photos. It’s one of those magical little touches that makes the experience feel special.

Waterpark Tips for Parents
A few things I learned about navigating the waterpark with multiple kids:
- The life jackets are free and available at the waterpark. Grab them for your little ones.
- There are family cabanas you can rent if you want a home base, but honestly, we just found spots to leave our stuff and it was fine.
- The lazy river is perfect for a break when kids are getting tired but don’t want to leave the water.
- The toddler area is fantastic—my younger kids spent so much time there, and I loved that it was separated and safe.
- Height requirements are posted at each slide. Check them before you get in line to avoid disappointment.

How Long Should You Stay?
We did two nights, which gave us essentially three days with the waterpark (arriving early on day one and staying until checkout on day three). This felt perfect and plenty. We had time to do everything we wanted without feeling rushed, but it also wasn’t so long that we got bored.
If you’re on a tighter budget or schedule, one night would work, especially if you arrive when the waterpark opens and maximize that second day before checkout. But if you can swing two nights, I think that’s the sweet spot.

Budget-Friendly Bonus Tip
Look for packages and deals on the Great Wolf Lodge website. They often have promotions that include activity passes or dining credits. We booked during a promotion that saved us quite a bit and included some activity passes.
Also, consider going during off-peak times (not school breaks or holidays), and during the week, for better rates and smaller crowds.

Our Family’s Favorite Moments
Beyond all the practical tips, I have to share what made this trip so special for us. Watching our twins’ faces light up when they conquered a slide they were initially scared of. The way our older kids patiently included their younger siblings in MagiQuest. The spontaneous dance party in our room after the lobby celebration. The laughter echoing through the waterpark. Overcoming a fear of heights while on the ropes course together and the encouragement for me and my littlest one as we did the zipline on it.
These are the moments that make travel with kids worth all the planning and packing and coordinating. Great Wolf Lodge made it so easy for us to just be present and enjoy our time together.

Is Great Wolf Lodge Worth It?
Absolutely. While it’s not the cheapest vacation option, the value is there when you consider that entertainment, activities, and the waterpark are all included with your stay. You’re not nickel-and-dimed for every little thing (well, except the arcade, but that’s expected).
For families with kids who love water and adventure, it’s hard to beat. Everything is designed with families in mind, the staff is wonderful, and there’s truly something for every age.
Whether you’re celebrating a birthday like we were, looking for a weekend getaway, or planning a longer vacation, Great Wolf Lodge Florida delivers on fun, memories, and that all-important family bonding time.

A Great Option for Families
Our trip to Great Wolf Lodge was everything we hoped it would be and more. The twins had the birthday adventure of their dreams, our older kids got to be kids without any eye rolls (a miracle in itself), and we as parents actually got to relax and enjoy ourselves.
If Great Wolf Lodge wasn’t already on your family travel radar, I hope it is now. And if you’re already planning a trip, I hope these tips help you make the most of every magical moment.
