“I can’t do it, I can’t do it.” I stammered in the final pushes, that is until my midwife, Jeannie, demanded my attention, and with my eyes locked on hers through a wet veil of salty tears, she said, “You CAN do this, this is what your body was designed to do… so push.” And that was all it took. My mind focused, my heart raced, I beared down and then it happened. “Reach down and grab him,” she said and without hesitation my husband and I both reached and pulled Brayden’s tiny, slippery body up and onto my chest while my heart was simultaneously replaced with a new one. One whose twisted maze of marrow would forever be intertwined with a second little soul. Motherhood. At that moment, I was born into motherhood, again.
Linking up with I Heart Faces Motherhood challenge this week. See more from Brayden’s whirlwind birth story here.
