Each of these next few days are gracing me with some extra work and a couple of hours holed up in front of my steering wheel. And by few days, I mean the next week and a half.
And for this mama, who rarely gets through a full shower without interruption, I soaked in the beauty of a quiet cabin for almost a full ride. No music. No words.
Usually a long drives mean satiating my deep craving for books with a strong hit of the audio version, and dancing my way through a collection of notes and lyrics that move me. And I’m sure it’ll come to that, but first, it’s just me and the smooth hum of my wheels gripping the pavement, thoughts circling around life and motherhood, lights illuminating against the still dark sky. It’s then I feel that surge of energy infusing my day with an extra dose of love and hope. Of courage to be the woman, the mama, the wife, the friend I want to be.
And tonight? Tonight I’ll leave the door unlocked so a certain little girl can go potty while I shower.
How was your morning?

Sounds like a perfect morning. I’ve been doing something similar every morning this week…no phone calls, no music, no books…just me and my prayers and thoughts. It’s been a nice change.

When the roads are clear, I LOVED the drive. I LOVED the quiet. John couldn’t believe when I said half the time I’d forget to even turn the radio on. And that was when we only had one baby 🙂 Now..I get excited for a quiet drive to Meijer, lol!

There is a brief moment on the 101 HWY in Southern California when you are next to the ocean, and you rarely have bumper to bumper traffic.
And whenever I hit this part of the highway, I turn off my radio, roll down my windows, and listen to the sounds of the wind and ocean.
Thank you for reminding me of these precious moments of peace.

I’ve lost my appreciation for driving because it has become a chore…hopefully that changes soon. 😉
