It doesn’t matter where I go, donuts are something I inevitably find… and indulge in. During my travels, on special occasions and sometimes, just because. While I don’t think there needs to be an excuse per se, there isn’t a shortage of good reasons for a donut and right about now these DIY pretty in pink donuts that we whipped up this past week are right in style. Food style that is.
Donuts happen to be a great way to deliver the gift of sweet delight, topped with mouthfuls of fresh berries, crunch and delicious flavor combinations. In fact, just tonight my son asked if we could set an alarm for the morning so he could run out with dad to grab some donuts for Valentine’s Day. So, yeah, he’s got the right idea. If you feel up to making your own, you can try our coconut flour donuts… or if you’re low on time, you can do what we did and pick up a batch of plain-janes from the bakery while running through the grocery store, and top them to pretty in pink donut perfection yourselves!
To make the glaze, add about 1 1/2 C confectioners’ sugar in a medium bowl, combine 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk until smooth. Stir in a few drops of pink or red food coloring until your desired color is achieved. Of course, you can change up the color to suit any holiday or occasion, I’ve just been smitten with pink lately and was head over heals for these pretty in pink donuts!
We also gathered up a few different berries, some coconut, granola and pistachios as the topping to our delightful dipping… but really, the sky is the limit! From candies to sprinkles, pearls to nuts and anything else you can think of, use it as a topping.
I have to say, the donuts that were loaded up with fruit were my favorite!!
There’s definitely no right or wrong way to celebrate with donuts, whether it be a special occasion or a normal day you want to delight in. Invite some friends over or bring out your toppings and let the family have at it to sweeten the deal! Let everyone frost their own DIY pretty in pink donuts and compare toppings before indulging that sweet tooth with every bite!
