Part of this whole fabulous mommying gig is carving out those moments of time between the busy and the crazy, amidst the late-night frustrations and early morning cattle calls, while brushing off those guilty feelings of not being able to keep up, to do something for our families that makes a difference. And gettin’ down into the nitty-gritty to make a difference for my family is something that I love to do.
And saving money while doing something healthy for my family? That’s a difference I can carve out some time for.
I’ve held a few recipes in my Bookmarks section of my browser for a while now, and during a recent 36-hour stint at home, my oldest and I stole away for a few minutes to whip up our own natural laundry detergent.

And since we literally had just minutes, I went for making the dry version which was nothing more than mixing up 2 cups (or half a bar) of finely grated Fels Naptha Soap (or any other pure bar soap), 1 cup Washing Soda and 1 cup Borax.

Couldn’t have been easier and we’re loving the stuff! Next time, I’m going all out to make the gel version baby! And my guess is it won’t really take that much longer.

Here are the links to a couple of my favorite resources, one with a very thorough breakdown of the recipe, results, and cost, and one with a list of variable recipes.
Try it, I think you’ll like it!
