I always begin my mornings with coffee (okay, water first!), a good lightweight moisturizer and a few swipes of something pretty to help avoid looking like a #hotmessmom! Though sometimes, it’s inevitable.
In fact, we just returned home from an AMAZING cruise, which was more like a second-honeymoon and so needed (more on that soon), to the welcoming arms of our children… and something a little extra – lice. With what seemed like a million deadlines to hit in just a couple of days, dealing with that totally wasn’t on our radar. Thankfully after a full day of washing EVERYTHING and a couple of late nights feeling like monkeys, I think we’re in the clear.
Basically, all of that to say, motherhood is always throwing some kind of curveball and time to spend on oneself is usually pushed to the wayside. The thing is, we also have to (sometimes) go out in public, and goodness, even speak to people other than baby-talk within the walls of our home!
While I love a good pampering routine and feeling a little extra when going out, I’m also realistic about the time I have, and like to spend just minutes on a quick, everyday makeup routine.

My 5 Minute Everyday Makeup Routine!
Start at the Foundation
The one step you don’t want to skip on those busy mornings is prepping and protecting your skin. While I wash and get in a bit more time on a skincare routine at night (especially getting the makeup and grime of the day off), I recently learned straight from Oprah Magazine’s beauty director, Brian Underwood, while we chatted on previously mentioned cruise, is that we don’t actually need to cleanse again in the morning! So save that step for the evening.
First and foremost for the AM hours, moisturize and protect your skin with a bit of SPF! Add a bit of tint with a BB cream or medium coverage foundation is easy to apply, and allow your natural glow to shine through.
It was so much fun recently unwrapping the latest package from Olay with the new fragrance-free Olay Whips… which actually absorb faster than the $100, $200, and even $400 creams! It’s already been the best-selling new facial moisturizer of 2018 and is now available fragrance-free so we can get the same lightweight (yet potent) skincare without the scent, which is something I like since I prefer to choose which scents I apply, not have it in my moisturizer. And for daytime, I’m loving this gold bottle with the SPF I need. The Olay Whip Total Effects with SPF 25 (now fragrance-free!) creates the perfect barrier before I head out for the day and it’s easy to grab at Walgreens (on just about every other corner)!
It’s all about the Eyes
It’s amazing how a two little tweaks can take you from sleep zombie to bright eyed and ready for the day. The first step is simple, sculpt and shape your brows. On a 5 minute quick makeup routine kind of day we are sticking to the natural look and just defining and filling in what’s already there… a big reason why microblading is so awesome and I’m sharing my experience with that soon (right after my second appointment so I can give all the juicy details!). The second step is my desert island makeup item – mascara. This one item immediately makes you look like you put in effort and bonus it makes your eyes look bigger.
A Natural Flush
Because we are on a time crunch we aren’t going crazy with the contouring. When you want to spend more than 5 minutes getting ready, that is the perfect time to tackle contouring, but for an easy everyday makeup routine and flush is enough! With a light dusting of bronzer around the edges of your face and blush on the apples of your cheeks you can achieve a healthy glow in under a minute.
A Perfect Pout
Complete the look with a naturally neutral moisturizing lip gloss! If you want to give yourself a natural plumping boost, add a drop of peppermint oil to your lip gloss tube and you’ll be surprised at the results… trust me, it works!

Thanks for sharing these tips, I will definitely try them out! I’ve always had a problem with makeup, it takes me ages to apply it properly, and after that my pores get clogged very easily. I’ve always wanted to learn some contouring, but with the kids and work I can’t seem to find the time. I have only like 15 minutes a day for makeup, so I have to be quick.
