“There’s something like a line of gold thread running through a man’s words when he talks to his daughter, and gradually over the years it gets to be long enough for you to pick up in your hands and weave into a cloth that feels like love itself.”
~John Gregory Brown
Happy Father’s Day to my incredible daddy who never ceases to amaze me. I’ll always be your girl.
To the larger-than-life father of my children, who has a magical knack for loving our kids in this extraordinary way, Happy Father’s Day. We love you.
And in true larger-than-life fashion, we spent the morning on hands and knees, dipping paint and writing names to make an oversized, rainbow colored banner to welcome daddy as he came home and entered our living room.
And it certainly was a lively, lived-in, and loving living room today.
I just love watching Aliyah’s excitement over planning special little surprises, because she does it with such heartfelt passion. What better surprise than something handmade and from the heart, with the scent of crafting paper, markers and paint as the encore to the tune of this perfectly happy idea.
Makes me want to plan special little surprises everyday. And I think I may just try it.
My little angel, jumping in with reckless abandon, spreading her enchanted love, joy and excitement with each brush stroke and every flick of that felt-tipped ink. Flittering about the room, from one side of the smooth paper to the other, making sure every detail is just as it should be.
It was special, it held a place close to that little beating heart. It was for her daddy.
After the banner was hung with care, the bottles of liquid color were capped off and the presents wrapped, we tip-toed up the stairs to settle in for some much needed, and quite delayed, naps… feeling as giddy as Santa’s little helpers. And knowing that when it was time for those heavy eyelids to open again, daddy would be home to enjoy the fruits of our labor.
And that he did. In fact, we all did.

Lovely gift for your husband. My sons are grown now but if they were still little, this would inspire me. I miss this.

I so miss my boys crafting surprises like that – It is hard to to it when the oldest has left the nest and one footprint or handprint is missing. I’m going to have to just go forward – one footprint missing! It kind of breaks my heart!
However, your post brought joy – and memories – and inspiration! Thank you!
