I’ve had all these words stored up and stashed out of sight, my blank slate of a screen staring at me from the corner and yet no time to put the two together. All these moments of impromptu pool parties and bright blue skies, late night family snuggles and snacks enjoyed from our big fluffy bed, moments where it felt like life was smiling right at me and I couldn’t help but smile back. It was all I could do not to run straight to that blank slate and start writing about all the little moments that make each day so special, so full and not so little. But sometimes living and loving and enjoying all those little moments trump writing about living and loving and enjoying those little moments. And that’s just the way it was.
So, today, I’ve found a quick break from working here while the little is on a “date” with her papa and my tiniest love is sleeping soundly.
Something I adore about summer are the lazy Saturday mornings, our bodies all twisted into pretzels, sunshine gleaming steadily through the windows, and eventually we roll ourselves out of bed and straight downtown to the hustle and bustle of the Farmer’s Market. Fresh doughnuts become breakfast as we take turns picking out the juiciest strawberries and the most crisp cucumbers. Our steps fall into the rhythm of the live jazz band serenading the crowd. And my rule, we can’t leave until we’ve had perfectly cooked corn on the cob, eaten as if it were a giant popsicle with a stick out of the bottom and melted butter coating each bite.
This past Saturday definitely didn’t fall into that “lazy morning” category because there was just too much to do, but we still managed to visit that all too familiar place for an expedited version of our traditional trip.
