When was the last time you took a break? And by a break, I don’t mean just ticking off things from your to-do list in a different location, but actually taking a moment to intentionally rest.
If you’re anything like me, you might even feel a twinge of guilt when you sit down to ‘do nothing’, but taking time to pause and give yourself a break is so important, and that’s what I’m diving deep into in today’s episode.
This is a bit of a vulnerable episode for me because burnout is something that I’m very much working through at the moment, but my goal here at Radiant Womanhood is to always be open and honest and share my journey with you, in the hope that it might resonate and help you too if you’re currently walking through something similar.
In this episode I’ll be sharing a little about the burnout I’m currently experiencing, and what I’m doing to help me work through it.
In this episode, I discuss:
- How stress, overwhelm and burnout can sometimes lead to overworking even more, due to the underlying belief that if we work a little bit harder, we’ll find a solution, leading to a functional freeze state.
- Think of yourself like a computer with all the different tabs open – sometimes you need to shut down, unplug and reset, in order to function to your full potential once again.
- One of the things helping me work through the emotional burnout I’m currently experiencing is to acknowledge the feelings I’m feeling, even if they’re uncomfortable. Get curious with your feelings and ask yourself, what are these feelings trying to tell me?
- Juliet Funt’s analogy of how you can have all the ingredients and components of a fire – the paper, the logs, etc – but if you pack it too tightly and there’s no space, the fire won’t light. We too need breathing space to fulfil our potential. If we cram our schedules full with endless tasks and don’t leave space for breathing room, the flames won’t ignite.
- Give yourself permission to rest! Give yourself permission to ‘do nothing’, take an intentional break, allow yourself to reset, and come back stronger.
This is the perfect time to be talking about rest, because today’s episode brings us to the end of our first season of Radiant Womanhood! Thank you so much for supporting the show so far, and stay tuned for when we’ll be back with Season 2 in the fall.
