You guys, I had a birthday this weekend. A birthday!! And each year I get serious about setting new goals for myself and looking over the ones I set the year before to see where I’ve come, though I also just really look forward to a birthday nap at about this age. I’m SO thankful for what this past year brought, and so looking forward to the next one! And thankfully, I did have a nap this weekend as well… plus my husband managed to take me out for a bit to a place nestled onto the river that we’ve been wanting to try for awhile. With three little ones, date nights out seem to be fewer and further between, but day dates? Those are quite more likely and doable, especially since time out is totally revolved around a sitter’s schedule and this is just the way it worked out. It was a deliciously decadent birthday on all accounts, full of amazing food, a handsomely doting man and even some dancing in the street. Yes, a good day date out indeed.
We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Ulele in the converted old water works building along the river (and recently developed river walk) in Tampa Heights. The history here (dating all the way back to the 1500’s with Princess Ulele, where the restaurant coined it’s name) is pretty incredible, and the incorporation of those elements into the architecture and design is done so well. We definitely enjoyed our food, a mix of native inspiration and coastal tastes, and I highly recommend the alligator hush puppies and candied duck bacon maple fried ice cream… both are so good. I think the area as well, with a splash park right next to it, would be a fun place to actually bring the kids for a day out when a sitter can’t be found 😉 And I can just imagine the views out those large windows over looking the park and the river at sunset… how gorgeous! I’m absolutely impressed by the delicious eateries in the Tampa Bay area, and this is definitely one to try! Let us know if you do.

Also, how sweet it is that the staff brought out their own signed card and box of truffles as a gift for my birthday?!

I love the idea of setting goals on your birthday rather than on New Year’s. It makes it more personal and a way to grow with each personal year. I have never heard of Ulele before, I don’t get over to that area very often. I will have to try it out sometime. Thanks for sharing!
