My family and I consider ourselves members of the Saturday Family Brunch Club. We all like to “sleep in” or to be more accurate, lounge in our PJ’s and beds a little longer on Saturdays. Meaning, past 7am. We embrace the less scheduled morning and I don’t mind spending a little more time preparing a bit of a breakfast spread, stirring, whipping and flipping in the kitchen. My kids will rub their eyes and slowly yawn their way out of sleep as they pad their way out of their rooms, not unlike a cat stretching their way right out of slumber and into the day.
Sometimes this happens.
More often than not, we’ve got “The Saturday Fever” of running errands, filling in the weekend with more yes than no, which often translates into go.
When it does happen though, it’s grand and I don’t mind celebrating grand. One of our breakfast go-to dishes is waffles. I love a good family brunch of waffles because it’s actually really easy to get on the table and customizable too (and totally okay to use frozen waffles as well!). For the kids, it’s all about the toppings. I like to layout a few different fruit options, nuts, a couple spreads like my homemade pumpkin butter or Nutella and of course whipped cream and syrup. Throw in some bacon, orange juice and milk for the littles and you almost have the perfect brunch spread. What’s missing you ask, well that’s easy… for us mamas and papas the answer would be coffee. Did you think I forgot the most important item? Not a chance!
Now for that waffle brunch. Since an array of toppings is what a good cup of coffee makes, so goes a waffle brunch. Serve up a platter of waffles, add a beautiful display of fresh toppings to the table and you’ve got waffle brunch gold.
While I don’t necessarily need a reason to set up a brunch or to celebrate, this is such a simple way to offer a customizable breakfast for the holidays too!
