So I made it a goal at the beginning of the year to allow myself more time to read, meaning make more time for me to read. I even downloaded an app to keep track of what I was reading and what I thought of each book so at the end of the year I could look back on my progress. While it didn’t always happen as much as I’d like, curling up with a good read is still a favorite past time of mine and I’m not willing to let it go. Travel season for me is the perfect time, dousing a plane ride with the stories that jump out of the pages of a good book make me almost wish the flight was longer, so devouring a book during travel is easy for me. At home, it’s a different story. It has been like five hundred degrees here though lately, okay so more like in the 90s, but still, that calls for major air conditioning or staying near the pool, and a book in hand as much as possible.
Recently I was sent Behind Closed Doors by BA Paris (which was just released today!) to check out and I read it in ONE day! I would say I read it in one sitting, but with kids, that is just not a reality I live in (but it almost happened!). I couldn’t put it down, mainly because I couldn’t leave the main character in the situation… I just had to see it through to completion and find out how the plot would turn. It was clear to me why the book was compared so much to Gone Girl, although I found the conclusion to be SO much more satisfying, the main character so much easier to rally behind and overall the indulgence of reading it wasn’t as creepy of an experience.
Really though, this book reminded me to see people in such a different light. We never really know what happens behind closed doors or what might be behind the smile of someone we run into. Offering grace rather than judgement to the people around me, the people I meet and opening my eyes to really see them is something that I want to allow time for into my life, even through the chaos of schedules and kids. There is always time for people. For this, I applaud the book.
Do you have any books you’re loving lately?! I’m looking for my next read! You can check out some of my previous reads here, and if I don’t share about a book, it means that it wasn’t worth mentioning. 😉 Seriously though you guys, I live across the street from a library and am itching to find another good one.

I decided to subscribe to Book of The Month this year and I’ve been loving my selections, with the exception of one. I’ve read Before the Fall and Eligible and loved them both. I was actually disappointed when I went on a trip because I could bring Before the Fall, it isn’t something you want to read while you are flying. This month I selected two books and can’t wait to get reading.

I like to read more often but I have very limited time. Maybe I should spend at least 3 hours a day for reading.

I don’t get much time to read anymore unfortunately. I could really go for a good book like this though. I need to take some time out of my day to read for at least an hour.
