Wakeup Essential Oil Blend
Getting your children out of bed and smiling brightly for their day is usually a challenge. Try using this cheerful citrus scent to awaken their senses with a mint undertone to focus their energy. You can try using it as a room mister by using a few spritzes when you wake your child, or in a diffuser, in a location they will smell near their room or bathroom.
Mix the following essential oils in a glass container with an orifice reducer. Then dilute it in your choice of delivery method at a 1% percent dilution rate (9 drops for every 1 oz. of liquid) – ie. dilute in water for a diffuser and water and/or rubbing alcohol for a mister.
- 10 drops Wild Orange essential oil
- 2 drops Grapefruit essential oil
- 1 drop Peppermint essential oil
Best Smelling Essential Oil Blends for School
As a parent, you love your children more than anything, but you also know all the icky habits your little energy bundles of love have. Put them in a room with twenty more germ-factories and they are sure to share, or catch, something throughout the year. Here are a couple of helpful best smelling essential oil blends for your little to kick off the school year.
Lice Prevention Essential Oil Spray
Studies have shown that Tea Tree is the most effective essential oil in combating head lice. At 1% concentration, tea tree oil killed 100% of the head lice within 30 minutes. Tea Tree essential oil is known for sometimes causing skin irritation in its pure form, so you must use caution while using it on children.
Be sure not to exceed the 1% dilution rate with a child under 10 years old when using this essential oil frequently, and with Tea Tree oils effectiveness it’s unnecessary anyway.
Mix the following essential oil recipe in a dark spray bottle to keep your essential oil potent. Spray on your child’s hair in the morning especially at the base of the neck and behind the ears.
1) Essential Oil Lice Prevention Spray
- 2 ounces water (preferably filtered)
- 18 drops Tea Tree oil
If you feel the scent of Tea Tree is too intense you can try this recipe with a sweet-smelling Lavender and zesty Lemongrass oil to cut through the earthy Tea Tree and make the smell more pleasant. After all, I did say I would give you the best smelling essential oil blends for back to school.
2) Best Smelling Lice Prevention Essential Oil Spray

DIY Essential Oil Hand Sanitizer for School
Keep those germs at bay with this easy DIY Hand Sanitizer. Regular hand sanitizer has lots of drying alcohol and often has an unpleasant smell unless it is full of artificial perfumes. Legend tells us that “thieves” used this blend of back to school essential oils to ward off the plague.
This essential oil recipe is gentle for children and helps prevent creating those antibacterial resistant superbugs.
And the wonderfully warm, spicy scent makes it one of the best smelling essential oil blends. You can start making your own “thieves” blend or keep it easy by using a premade blend like Shield.

Homework Helper Essential Oil Roller
I joined forces with my favorite essential oil company to make the Homework Helper roller blend. It’s a winning blend of Peppermint, Vetiver, Grapefruit, Rosemary, and Lime diluted down to a safe ratio for children. It takes the guesswork out of using essential oils with your kids.
When your littles sit down to do homework or study, simply roll Homework Helper on their wrists, the bottom of the feet or back of the neck to help with concentration and focus.
I actually recommend using this roller blend daily, and in the morning, before sending off to school. A generous application on the bottom of their feet before a school day will help with concentration!
Best Smelling Back to School Essential Oils for a Good Night Sleep
I’ve been researching lately and read up on how important sleep is for children. I found a publication from the National Sleep Foundation that stated poor sleep in school-aged children could lead to mood swings, behavioral problems like ADHD and cognitive problems. These problems can impact a child’s ability to learn in school.
With numerous extracurricular activities, homework, and digital stimulation getting your children a good night’s sleep has never been more of a challenge. Using essential oils to help with our nighttime routine has become a regular occurrence.
This is one of the best smelling essential oil blends for bedtime. These essential oils have a calming and relaxing effect that will help your littles fall asleep faster. You could diffuse this blend or dilute it in fractionated coconut oil for a massage oil you can rub on tiny backs and bellies for a relaxing nighttime routine.
- 3 drops Lavender essential oil
- 2 drops Copaiba essential oil
- 1 drop Roman Chamomile essential oil
Sleepy Head Essential Oil Roller
Just like the Homework Helper Roll-On, we created this Sleepy Head roller blend that is conveniently ready to use! Having a roller already mixed with a carrier oil to a safe ratio for children makes it easy to apply at any time. It already has a perfect blend of Cedarwood, Lime, Lavender, and Vanilla. Just roll on the bottom of the feet before bedtime.
Conclusion
I think these are some of the best smelling essential oil blends for your children to use as they go back to school. The pleasant smell of essential oils can help uplift their mood and ease anxieties that may be felt on the first day of school.
