We are tackling each room in the MountainView Lodge, one at a time, our newest project was the Primary Bedroom Floor Makeover. When it comes to making a big impact I always start with paint, but my next move is flooring… however, in this case, we started in reverse and were ready to tackle this floor!
Floors literally ground your space, they have the ability to draw the eye in and create a beautiful foundation on which to build the vision you have for your room.
Our vision for the cabin’s primary bedroom was to keep things light, natural, and cozy. Because the Mountain View Lodge hosts many guests, we also kept in mind that we needed to choose flooring that was not only aesthetically pleasing but durable enough for the high foot traffic it will be receiving.

Choosing the Perfect Flooring
If you didn’t already know, vinyl flooring (or Luxury Vinyl Tile/Plank) is one of the fastest-growing flooring categories. There is a number of reasons for it shooting to the top above all the other options, the product stands out because it is durable, waterproof, pet-friendly, easy-to-install, affordable, and comes in virtually infinite colors and texture variations. What’s not to love right?
But it is important to note that not all vinyl floors are created equal. We love the Flooret Luxury Vinyl Tile/Plank Floors because, on top of their planks’ quality structure, the company pays attention to the design details. Their planks have four-sided enhanced bevels that emulate the look of real wood floors, this helps to create a surface that is convincing to the eye and to the touch, plus their planks’ low sheen level ensures a natural look that wears well over time.
The Process for a Master Bedroom Makeover
First things first, call your family and friends and get to demo your old floors. We were starting out with carpet in the Primary Bedroom and Vinyl Tile in the Primary En Suite Bathroom.
- Clear the Space and Put on Your Protective Gear. We moved as much as we could out of the room, leaving only the biggest pieces of furniture.
- Detach the Carpet from the Tack Strip
- Cut the Carpet into Strips
- Remove the Carpet Pad
- If Necessary, Remove the Tack Strips
- Sweep the Floors For a Clean Surface before Laying your Luxury Vinyl Planks
- Determine Your Pattern
- Cut Your Strips (If/When Needed for Corners, Length, Etc.)
- Follow Easy Installation Directions
