Doing Something, originally uploaded by Tabitha Blue / Fresh Mommy. Taken on my iPhone.
It’s amazing how quickly the tide can turn on our plans. Just yesterday I was riding a comfortable wave where one leg was dangling in cuddle time with my kids while the other kicked it’s way through that unending list that comes along with working at home. And then it happened. The phone call. Moments later I was using every muscle I had to paddle frantically to shore. The tide had changed and I would be flying out of town for work in less than twelve hours… Of which the next hour was spent on my phone adjusting schedules and making arrangements as I simultaneously stroked the silky hair of the little one sleeping next to me on the big bed and listened to the hum of rhythmic breathes coming through the monitor from the baby’s room. I missed them already.
Spontaneity and flexibility, two words that describe my family very well. Two words for which I’m grateful. A date night and a family trip to the lake for ice skating are plans that will wait for another weekend, and will need to be trumped by something spectacular. That is something I can deliver. But the reaction of my littles to go with the flow and smile in the face of the changing waves? That is something only they can do, and they deliver with a perfectly carved cutback every time.
Even now as I type, hovering over the cloud’s own version of a white foamy sea, I’m reflecting on the ebb and flow of life. Just when I think I have things planned out, a new break opens up reminding me, once again, to cherish the calm.
Last night, my family rallied for a dinner out. Spirits were high as laughter literally filled our table, inviting comments and compliments from staff and neighboring tables alike. And back at home, bedtimes stretched late into the night, after an evening of filling our bellies and souls. A filling that will hopefully last through the weekend.
But we shouldn’t wait for a tidal change to bring on special moments of spontaneity. No, those are moments we’ll cherish whether it’s followed by the ebb of a brief trip away or the flow of a normal day.
Plane’s landing… Gotta run.
Do something spontaneous today, just because. ‘Till the next re-filling!

That’s crazy. But it’s nice to know that your family is easily adjusting to your ever changing schedules during your traveling season. 🙂
Be safe!

Tabby, I read this and my eyes leak, so precious is this life that God chooses to bless us with… I miss my little girl, but thanks for making me a replacement… Love ya, and “miss you already!” Daddy

Everything put in such beautiful words, it was like reading a book done by an author with a way with words. Now…on the flip side, 12 hours? Really? I am sure your little ones are missing you.
