You know how great grilled brats are? Of course you do! What if I told you that the right dip could make them even better? The best part about this skillet beer cheese dip is that it’s easy to prepare over the fire or on the grill, and it works with just about any type of sausage, or other dip-ins like crusty bread, pretzels and more.
Skillet beer cheese isn’t just for the grill, and it doesn’t even have to be made in a skillet, although I really think you should try it at least once that way! So get ready to make one of the best dips around!
If you’ve been around for a while, then you know our love for Omaha Steaks runs deep. We’ve been an ambassador with them for almost two years now and I happily place an order each month to stock up our freezer. I’ve found shopping their package sales to be such a great way to stock up for our large family of EIGHT and it truly helps with meal planning.
While going through our freezer, I pulled out a package of brats and knew a beer cheese just sounded SO good to go along with it. Cooking it all up in the skillet over an open fire? EVEN better!
Now, we know you don’t NEED an open campfire (perfect for camping!!!) for this skillet beer cheese, you can cook it on the grill (perfect for tailgating!!!) – and you can also cook it up on the stove as well.
How to make skillet beer cheese dip over the fire or on the grill
1) Tools you need for this skillet beer cheese recipe
You’ll need a cast-iron skillet. A regular one will work but a lid or tin foil will help to keep in that warmth.
If you’re cooking over the campfire, this tripod is what we use, and love it! You’ll also want a long-handled wooden spoon and hot pads for moving the hot pan off the heat. Besides those items, just gather your ingredients and you’re good to go!
2) Skillet Beer Cheese Ingredients
3 c. shredded cheddar cheese, (8-oz. block) cream cheese, 2 cloves garlic, minced, lager beer, and a pinch of cayenne pepper.
Serve skillet beer cheese with toasted baguette slices, soft pretzels, crackers, cauliflower or broccoli and another favorite, Omaha Steaks brats (you have to try, it’s so good!)
3) Instructions to Make Skillet Beer Cheese
Place a grate over the campfire and in a large cast-iron skillet, add minced garlic, cheddar, cream cheese, and beer and sprinkle with cayenne pepper. Cover with lid or foil and cook until cheese melty and ready to be stirred, about 15 minutes.
