“Ok, let’s go” I said as I blew a kiss behind me towards my precious little baby girl. Well, more like toddler girl now. She was already heading into the next room, bouncing and singing, she was at Grandpa and Grandma’s house and always loved being there. It definitely made nights out easier, knowing that she was happily playing, no cares or worries about us.
I was already dressed and ready to go, in a dress that was as much about comfort as it was about style. Makeup and hair done, just a little extra eyeshadow tonight… I was going to be in a room full of models, thought the extra touch couldn’t hurt. My Christopher walked out of the back room a picture of perfection. The crisp white shirt carefully rolled up just enough to hover over his forearms, the tie hung loosely around his neck, tied with an extra wide knot, and only the top of that tie showing under the black sweater that fit so perfectly over his chest. The look was slightly dressy without showing too much effort. We were ready to go.
The dark of the evening had already pushed the day’s light right out of the city, and the illumination around us came from the street lamps and buildings that surrounded us. We arrived at our destination and I had to take a second look. The place was a vintage library, looked like it had survived decades, with limousines lining the stretch of road in front and mile high banners hanging high above the entrance. This was the place we were supposed to be.
Tonight was a book signing event and art exhibit for my agent… to take people on a “joyride through auto show history.” We were excited to be a part of this event, as I’m part of the current auto show industry.
On the way to the large, domed room in the back, we had passed a series of doors. They looked so interesting, so intriguing. I knew we had to see what was behind them, but for now, I would wait, I had other reasons drawing me there. It turns out, many people were excited to be there, as the large room was filled from wall to wall. Conversations made way for a constant hum in the background with bursts of laughter coming from one place or another. We saw old friends, and made new ones. While drinks and hors d’oeuvres passed us by, and the press snapped photos, we talked with my agents, and walked the perimeter, taking in all of the art exhibit while there. I quickly scored my copy of the new book and had it signed, with a special handwritten note inside just for me.
Once through there, we were ready to explore and made our way back and found one of the rooms we had passed… guarded by an old wooden door, which held a large panel of glass in the center. The letters on it weren’t quite readable any longer and the soft green light glowed through as we came closer.
It was as if we’d stepped back in time. As we entered the room, it seemed to continue on in one direction, making a long rectangular shape. Books lined the walls from floor to ceiling and there wall an older, well dressed fellow eyeing us from across the room, he acknowledged us with a soft smile. Large, sturdy wooden tables filled the center of the room, and there the soft green light came from the lamps that rested on each one.
If you know our family, you know our love of books, and this place was as interesting as a vintage candy store. We browsed and examined. My favorite happened to be an oversized book that was already placed on one of the large wooden tables. It held drawings and blueprints of our city, dating all the way back to 1800. It was beautiful, it was historical.

LOVE the shoes – very nice capture of the evening, who knew a library would be so photogenic. I was waiting for a photo of your husband, too, but then I realized your description was definitely comprehensive enough – no photo needed.

Great story…
Old, vintage books intrigue me as well. They have such a history…you never know who’s fingers have danced over the pages.
Sounds like a wonderful evening out…aren’t grandparents a God send?

Visiting from SITS…LOVE LOVE LOVE the photos! I think one of my most favorite things in the world is wandering around a book store/library…sometimes with hubby. Though….he always seems to come back with either a sex-guide or a comic book in his hands. Sigh.
