The great thing about having lazy relaxed days at home, is that when days come knocking that are hectic and chaotic, full and continually getting more full, I can answer with grace. At least that’s what I tell myself.
I’m still working on the graceful part.
And when days like today arrive, in the office with both of my kids, wiping faces and changing diapers between staff meetings and projects, I know it was the latter that found it’s way to my doorstep this morning.
But today…
today is special.
Today the girl that made me a mama turned four years old. And in the midst of organized chaos and piles of sticky notes being lost on my desk, at exactly 2:10 pm, I grabbed up my little saving grace into my arms and will eyes full of welled tears, whispered the feelings that I could barely utter for fear of becoming a puddle on the floor.
My girl, I love her so. And four years ago, today, my life changed more than I could’ve ever dreamed possible.
Though we celebrated this morning over chocolate chip pancakes made by the hands of our favorite handsome chef, after slithering out of bed and slipping our princess into her Birthday Girl crown… which by the way, is being worn all day long… and again with a special birthday cake at lunch, my favorite part of the day was the snuggle with my little bug, exactly four years after she was first placed in my open embrace.

Motherhood opens our hearts in more ways than one could ever imagine. Milestones are always bittersweet, all the emotions well up and we don’t know whether to celebrate or cry! Usually, its a little bit of both.
Happy Birthday Little One!
By the way, the pancakes are perfect! We do a lot of birthday pancakes here…sprinkles, chocolate chips…and whipped cream on top!
