It’s a new season and that means it’s time to reevaluate and make sure our summer skincare routine is ready… Ready for splashing in the pool with the kids and sliding into a dress with strappy sandals and a quick swipe of lip gloss and mascara for a last-minute date night. Summer is a season of fresh watermelon, easy meals, swimsuits (yes, ladies, we can do it!), dewy skin (please!), sunscreen and embracing the simplicity. The simplicity that we are all beautiful, shining differently in our own way, apart from any “standard” and separate from any norm.
And this summer season? I feel like it’s a blank slate for fresh faces and sun-kissed cheeks. For the bare-beauty to shine through. For the glow that comes from a good laugh around a bon-fire (side note: the best light!) or a romp with our wee one through the hose.
It’s a season for what seems like less fuss and more real, raw living… which typically translates to more curly haired ponytails for me.
Whether donning makeup or not, trying a new bold lip color or solely swiping on the tropical scent of sunscreen, a great summer look begins with good, clear skin. And a great summer skincare regimen starts with a great facial cleanser… and plenty of water! It’s the foundation and everything builds from there.
And yes, I will wear makeup this summer – I have been wearing makeup, my routine just looks a little different, a little simpler. An uncomplicated note that falls into the rhythm of our season.
How I Get Summer Skincare Ready
I’ve dealt with breakouts and unclear skin, well, since I can remember. My constant struggle meant stripping down my skin with peels and scrubs and masks, oh my. While I do still love a good mask and pampering regimen, it’s easy to give in to the temptation to try all the things. Usually, it wreaks havoc – ultimately disturbing the pH balance, stripping skin of hydration and delivering the opposite of the intended result. I’ve found that maintaining hydrated skin will ultimately result in clearer, glowing skin! Lately, I kept hearing about Olay’s Cleansing Infusion Facial Cleanser with Deep Sea Kelp with a soy-based formula that uniquely hydrates, drawing out impurities while drawing in hydration and leaving the skin with a natural glow. Because of the reactive nature of my skin, I’m always careful about the cleansers I use, but the soy-based hydration of this facial cleanser is something I was all over.
This cleanser is now the first step in my summer skin care routine and I love that it leaves my skin feeling clean, but not dry and parched, thanks to the soy, aloe and sea kelp instead of harsh soaps. I’m just left with hydrated, dewy skin, without any oily residue, something we all want, right?
Summer Skincare Benefits
No one likes products that burn or irritate after a beautiful day well-spent in the sunshine. Since we all get a little extra sun this season, even with sunscreen (you wear it, right?), Olay’s hydrating formula with deep sea kelp & aloe extract is the perfect crescendo to a melodious day outdoors, because it instantly adds that hydration back into the skin. So if you want to try it out yourself, just look for Olay’s new gold cleanser on the shelf, it’s the perfect addition to your summer skincare routine!
Whew, okay! Your turn. Tell me, what’s makes up your summer skincare regime? I’m ever curious!
This summer skincare post is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Olay. The opinions and text are all mine.

I love using Olay in the summer, but I definitely need it in the winter because my skin gets so dry!

If you re not wearing a winter coat, why should your skin? In the summer, I generally remind patients that just like their wardrobe, their skin-care routine may need to be a little more lightweight, says Ibrahim. The heat and humidity of summer means you can swap out a heavier cleanser (think cream or oil cleanser ) in favor of a gentle, foaming option.

Very well explained. I know a bit about summer skincare. My skincare routine is mostly homemade. I learned a few natural home remedies for daily skincare from iahas.com but these natural products may be worth trying.
