Mornings can be hectic. Especially when you’ve got a four-month-old who coos the morning away and is adorably distracting us like it’s her job… after keeping mama up all night.
But here’s the thing, having the ultimate morning routine that works for you can actually be simple to create and it sets you up for a more productive and happy morning, which in turn sets you up for a more productive and happy day!
It’s no secret that I’m a fan of a great morning routine, in fact if you’ve been around here awhile you might even remember these 7 steps to radically change your mornings.
With a big family, having something in place helps greatly in getting us out the door on time. It’s also true that I’m most definitely not a morning person.
So what gives? How can I get the rest that I know my body needs and have a productive morning without feeling like I’m becoming (or trying and failing to be) a completely different person? How do I find the ultimate morning routine perfectly designed for me?
I need to create it. I need to get it down on paper and work it out so I can find the right rhythm and pattern that suits me and my family’s needs. The great thing is, it’s doable!
Everyone’s mornings are different, and they should be! Yes, there are a few basics. Yes, there are things we can do to create an environment for waking up happy and having a productive day, but everyone can create a morning routine that is just right for them… not too hot and not too cold. Not too big and not too small. Not too hard and not too soft.
Yikes, can you tell I’ve been reading too many kid’s books lately 😉 Tell me if you know where that one is from!
So whether you’re a natural morning person who wakes up rejuvenated and refreshed, ready to take on the day or you snooze the alarm and drag your feet out of bed, forgetting to eat breakfast and wondering where to start (me most days!), setting an ultimate morning routine into effect will work wonders on your day.
Whether you’re a mama to many or only have to take care of yourself, when you give yourself time to take care of your mind and body, you have a clearer mindset, improve overall wellbeing, and increase energy.
Dirty dishes, chasing down kids’ shoes (why do they always lose a shoe?!), an overflowing email inbox, the list can go on and on… and none of those things make me want to jump out of bed.
But when I get a taste of doing something for me, something that I enjoy and that helps to set me up for a better day overall? Well, that is something I can open my eyes for. Only then, does the rest follow, but I’m in a much better place and state of mind to take it all on!
To make the process of creating your personalized ultimate morning routine even easier, so you have more time and energy to enjoy your family, I put together a worksheet for you! Just print it out and fill in the blanks.
The great thing is that you can switch things up as you see fit or how it fits into each day’s schedule. Use some tips and ideas from these 7 steps that will radically change your mornings, and make it happen… I’m doing it right along with you!
You can also do something new every day. If you want to write every day, do it – but if you want to try writing one day and reading the next, and add in some stretching, you can rock it that way too! Mix it up as needed to keep you motivated.
“I’ll always be mommy’s baby,” he said as he clamored his body onto my lap. It’s moments like these that make my heart swell, even larger than the shape of his growing body. It’s moments like this I want to be the best version of myself during their time with me, which means making the most of my time in the morning.
Also, I want to say a huge “thank you” to all of you mamas who give love and solidarity through your messages and comments! I’ve shared recently on Instagram how little sleep I still get sometimes… and also how my sweet, happy baby loves to be held for naps and your encouragement means the world!! We’ve also fallen in love with Dockatot (thank you for your recommendations!), and while Aria gets amazing sleep in this thing, we also get tons of comfy play time as you can see from the photos! 🙂 Plus, these organic cotton pajamas from Finn + Emma are the coziest… now we all need a pair in our size!

A morning routine is essential to having a productive day! Unfortunately, I don’t always execute it well. I definitely notice a difference when I don’t though!

These are such great tips! I always feel so much better when I get up for the day before the craziness starts. Even if it’s just 10 minutes of quiet. It’s like I’m ready for the day instead of the day slamming into me.
