I major heart Instagram, the community, the photos… it all blends together for a great app. For each of us, finding our own niche and style takes some time. I’m constantly learning, changing and adjusting and have found a few ways to make my own Insta photos stand out (which I’ll be sharing more about soon!), but I found this video from lifestyle photographer Nanette Wong on how to take better Instagram photos and upgrade your feed in a flash and thought it would be a great start to sharing about Instagram with you all.
I have to say, I agree with every single tip, and am totally that person that makes anyone at the table with me wait to dig in to their meal. Yes, I’m that annoying friend, but at least we eat at some great places right? 😉
Stay tuned for more tips and the apps I love for better iPhone and Instagram photos, but in the meantime, I’d love to hear what you thought of these four tips. Oh, and come find me on Instagram so we can be Insta friends!

Thanks for sharing that video! I loved those tips! (And her hair.)
Question: What do you think of the new landscape/portrait feature on IG? I kind of love it AND hate it. I love it for photos that aren’t of food or product, I suppose.
I was already turning my portrait/landscape photos into squares using Afterlight, so my gallery had a certain look to it, because each photo had a white border. I decided to TRY using the new feature on IG for a few days, and I gotta say, I think I want to go back to my old ways!
I’m at http://instagram.com/thelifeinbetween if you care to cast a vote. 😉

Yes, isn’t she great??!! Love your Instagram photos as well 😉 You know, I actually used to (a long time ago!) only post horizontal photos with a white border at the top and the bottom… and I loved the look! Especially when they were all together. I’ve gone back to the square, and have been using that layout for the longest time, and so I don’t add or play with white borders on my photos. But definitely do what you like best! It would seem like it would be easier to do it in Instagram since you wouldn’t have that extra step, but if you like it better adding with Afterlight, go for it! That’s what is so great about it… everyone has their own specific look, feel and mood on their feed… and I love it! 🙂

While taking photographs try to avoid the zoom function on your Smartphone. Always take the photos from the natural distance and then crop it out. Your photos will likely to be appearing sharper and brighter.
