Today is a very exciting episode – not only is it our first in-person guest episode, but that guest is my best friend and husband, Chris Blue!
Chris and I are in business together, we’re both certified life coaches, and we are each other’s biggest cheerleaders. Today we are talking about relationships, and not necessarily just romantic relationships or marriage, but everyone you choose to surround yourself with, because who we choose to have in our circle has more of an impact on our lives than you may think.
You may have heard the phrase “show me your friends and I’ll show you your future”, meaning that who you are surrounded by can dictate where you go in life and what you achieve, either by encouraging you to push yourself and live life to the fullest, or by holding you back, causing you to stay stagnant, and not reach your true potential.
In this episode, we discuss:
- The importance of being intentional about the direction our life is going in. Like a coast guard checking they’re still on course at times throughout their journey, we need to be regularly taking stock of our own lives and checking that our actions and the company we’re keeping are aligned with where we want to go in life.
- How we can be intentional about leaving a room a better place than when we came into it – you have the power to lift others up and create an energy that in turn will lift you up too.
- The power of the law of attraction when it comes to relationships, meaning that when you’re intentional about encouraging and empowering others, you will reap what you sow.
- How we can harness this law of attraction to shift our mindset from thinking – “what’s in it for me?” – to one where we give freely to others. By stepping away from a scarcity mindset of thinking “if I give too much out it’ll never come back…”, you’ll ultimately end up even more abundant in life.
- The line between this mentality and a toxic or codependent relationship, where only one person is involved in the giving and is being drained by the other’s behaviour or actions. In a strong healthy relationship, there needs to be reciprocity where you each raise each other up in times of need, otherwise you can end up “unequally yoked” and going in circles.
- The importance of having aligned goals in relationships – it might look different for each of you and manifest in different ways, but having aligned and complimentary end goals will strengthen your relationship and help you to grow in the same direction.
- The steps you can take to surround yourself with positive, empowering energy right now; in this modern world, we are so lucky to have access to podcasts, books, videos and so many resources we can immerse ourselves in to lift us up, inspire us, educate us and empower us. So if you’re struggling to surround yourself with people inspiring your growth right now, start online to find your community and go from there.
