Skylar recently turned three and since one of his favorite songs to watch on YouTube over and over and over is “What Does The Fox Say?”we celebrated with a fun woodland creatures birthday party and a little fox, of course. And when I say recently, what I really mean is just a week after Aria was born (so six weeks ago!) and I found his birthday photos on my computer this week and realized I hadn’t shared them yet! Maybe a little busy over here? Really though, THREE. I mean, how?! He was just in my arms, after the fastest 20 minutes in the hospital ever (we almost didn’t make it!). His life hasn’t slowed since. There are days I feel like he’s older with his strong will and vocabulary and days I relish his sweet compassion and want to hold onto his babyhood forever… though at three, I think that ship has sailed.
With each of my children’s birthdays, it’s a way of making a mark on our memories and though they are bittersweet for me, watching the excitement as they now celebrate each other makes me want to continue celebrating with a crew of friends and family at each and every one.
Here are a few quick photos we managed to snag between baby snuggling, opening presents and a dip in the pool (for the rest of them, I just wished I could get in).
With Aria barely a week old, we were coming off of a crazy whirlwind week and we were in the middle of packing up the house to move, but I didn’t want to let the weekend slide without celebrating him. Thankfully I’d already found this adorable woodland party set on sale at IKEA before baby was even born, so between that, some butcher block paper and wood scraps, sticks from the yard and washi tape, the party was ready. I was scrambling at the thought of making a cake (or food!) so off to the grocery we went and I took Skylar through the isles with the instructions, “Choose whatever snacks you want!” My theory for parties is that everything pretty much goes, and snacking is the perfect accompaniment to kids playing (when they’d normally ignore food) and gift unwrapping.
The crazy heatwave had just begun, so we switched locations at the last minute and instead of being at the studio, we went to water 🙂 Just outside was a pool that served as entertainment as well as a way to cool off.
Skylar has been SO into Paw Patrol lately, and as you can see what thrilled with anything he could open, including all of the Paw Patrollers. 🙂 It was just a blast seeing the smile across his face the entire time… a smile that melts me.
We love him to the moon and back.
PS. Check out his birth story here, which feels like yesterday!

Thanks so much girl!!! Getting treats from the store like that really made the party an easy one to throw together! 🙂
