I’m sure we ALL know what it’s like to walk into a stinky washroom, ewww. And especially when you need to use the loo, okay, when you need to use any part of the restroom really. I was skeptical at first that this toilette spray would even work, I mean, who needs another scent spray to add to the stink? But this… this works differently.
The first difference between a room fragrance spray is that you spray directly in the toilet before it’s used. Strange right? The purpose here is that the ingredients actually create a layer on top of the water that will trap the stink so that the entire restroom doesn’t smell like the toilet… it’s pretty brilliant actually. Essential oils also help to neutralize odors along with their antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.
You guys, I decided to give it a go and I’m glad I did. This is one super simple (and inexpensive) recipe that you can whip up in just a few short minutes!
DIY Bathroom “Eau de Toilette” Toilet Spray
Ingredients:
1/2 tsp vegetable glycerine
20 drops Lemongrass essential oil
20 drops Grapefruit essential oil
20 drops Bergamot essential oil
Small spray bottle
What to do:
1// Mix all ingredients in a small spray bottle.
2// Top with water.
3// Shake well and then again before each use.
This recipe comes together in just minutes, and lasts a LONG time, since only a couple of sprays are needed for each use! You can always start with whatever essential oils you have on hand and adjust as you add to your collection.
Also, since traveling recently, we brought this with us because in all honestly with five people in a hotel room you want to curb any amount of smelly air you can. Since I don’t mind the scent it creates, I would actually squirt this around the room when we arrived when I didn’t have my antibacterial spray easily accessible… and when we were outdoors around the cabin, I also used it as a bug repellant spray and it worked wonderfully! Voilà, multipurpose Eau de Toilette Spray!
Have you used essential oils? Which ones are your favorite?

Do you spray this in the air or in the toilet before you “go”?
Tabitha Blue says
Right into the toilet before you “go” 🙂 Spray it onto the water in the toilet.

Hello! I don’t have any vegetable glycerin but do have almond oil, good’ole vegetable cooking oils, and jojoba oil. What function does the glycering oil serve, and can I substitute? I’m also worried about heavier oils clogging the spray mechanism…
Thanks!

Hi Grace! I would just use the oils and water, although you’d really need to shake well right before spraying, or could even add in some rubbing alcohol. The glycerin just help to bond the oils and creates a little thicker of a spray without being too thick… but I’ve totally just used oils in water before and shake well and it works too!

I’ll definitely need to try this as an alternative to air sprays! This sounds much healthier and the fact that it’s not an aerosol is even better!

This looks like a great spray, and much more cost effective, thank you! My question is, how much water do you add for this recipe? Or else, what is the size of the “small bottle” you are using? Looks like maybe 2 ounces? I want to get the proportions right. Thanks!
