It’s that season again, where the warm weather wakes you with a wet kiss and little ones roll out of their slumber, bed headed and looking for something to fill their growling bellies. Yesterday, I mentioned making green smoothies again, since it’s been awhile and warmer climates just beg for delicious and nutritious smoothies, and my wee ones didn’t let that go. They woke ready to get to work in the kitchen. I don’t think I had to do anything… except for clean up the mess, of course!
We’ve used many different recipes before, mostly throwing in whatever ingredients we’ve got, but sticking with the main components of spinach and banana. This time when I talked about making a Green Monster, Brayden thought for a minute and said, “I want to make a blue dragon.”
And so we did! We added in some organic frozen berries (including blueberries for the “blue”) along with rice milk, bananas and spinach and had our Green Monster Blue Dragon Smoothie for breakfast this morning.
It’s such a great way to get your kids their greens! If they don’t always want to eat spinach, why not try drinking it.
Green Monster Blue Dragon Smoothie
Makes two large, or four medium cups
2 cups milk (whatever kind you prefer… organic milk, rice milk, almond milk)
2 bananas
1 cup frozen berries
4 large handfuls of spinach (or more)
Throw it all in a blender, or let your kiddos do it for you, blend well and serve immediately! We pour some into popsicle containers and freeze for a later snack and still have plenty to drink.
Let me know if you try it, I’d love to hear if you like it just as much as we do.
