Do you ever feel like January starts with such a rush that you’re left feeling overwhelmed, and like you’ve already fallen behind? It’s easy to get caught in the cultural pressure to declare resolutions, be your ‘best’ self, and dive headfirst into ambitious goals. But what if, instead of pushing ahead, we embraced the rhythm of winter and paused to rest?
In today’s episode, I’m sharing why slowing down and honoring the natural rhythms of the season can lead to a truly radiant year.

- The power of aligning with winter’s natural rhythm. Winter is a time of slower energy in the natural world – trees are bare, animals hibernate, and nights are longer – and yet we often push against this rhythm with hyper-productivity. Honoring the season’s slower pace allows for rest and introspection, setting a foundation for clarity and intentionality in the year ahead.
- The reasons why resolutions often fail – at this time of year we often feel societal pressure to set big, bold goals by January 1, and this rush often leads to burnout before the month’s even over. Instead of forcing resolutions, we can use this time for reflection and alignment, which will ensure our goals are sustainable, meaningful and ultimately more successful.
- The importance of rest when it comes to allowing space for clarity, renewal and alignment with your deeper calling. Whether it’s journaling, taking a slow walk in nature or meditating, intentional rest creates room for personal growth and thoughtful planning.
- How to create sustainable goals aligned with your values. Rather than hastily throwing goals onto a vision board, take the time to reflect on what truly matters. Ask yourself: Do these goals align with how I want my life and family to feel this year? By focusing on what aligns with your values, you set yourself up for a year that feels purposeful and joyful.
- Practical tips for embracing rest this January, including prioritizing sleep, spending in nature, limiting social commitments, being intentional with engaging in calm activities and nurturing your body with nutritious foods that fuel your body.
