I started my journey with essential oils over eight years ago and have been a fan of their natural healing and health capabilities ever since, although the usage in our home and family life has taken on it’s own ebb and flow. They were a beautiful necessity throughout my pregnancies and deliveries, and also perfect for those baby rub downs and overall health, especially when we lived in a cold climate and it seemed like colds and flus were more commonly passed around in those chilled winter months. Upon our move to a new city and state a couple of short years ago, my plan was to use up my stash of oils I had on hand and then wait to start ordering again when the need arose. What I didn’t expect to happen was that my “save” instinct arose in me and I only wanted to use the oils when absolutely necessary, and so the habit of using them in everyday life began to subside.
Fast forward a couple of years and it seems as though essential oils has become the “trendy” thing. While I’m all about exploring trends, my re-entry into the essential oil life is less to do with being “on trend” and really began upon learning that the miscarriages I’d experienced most likely had to do with my own hormones and how it took too long for them to stabilize after a pregnancy… meaning there was a slight possibility that they could have been avoided. Just typing those words brings tears to my eyes… again. My choice now is to do something about it. My choice now is to balance hormones and enable my body with the nutrients and minerals it needs to function properly, to find natural, holistic alternatives that are not only safe, but effective. The same thing applies to minor burns and scrapes, muscle soreness and aches, immune support, congestion, helping husbands not snore and the virtually endless list. 😉
Did you know that the first prescription ever recorded was for frankincense oil? The second was for peppermint oil. There is so much natural medicine at our disposal, we just have to know where to look and how to use it! Some of the mostly widely used medications today were originally sourced from plants… like the first aspirin medication used was an extract of White Willow Bark. By using essential oils we are going back to the things many people, cultures and healers have used for thousands of years. The pure essential part, the immune system, of plants, trees and vegetation were used to help with stomach ailments to sleep and everything in between… and these are solutions that don’t have a long list of side effects or warning labels.
Essential oils don’t just mask symptoms. They bring therapeutic change to the body, dealing with the root issue and supporting your whole system. I’m happy to share here how oils have been life-changing in our family, and show you how we use them in our home! I want to help mamas like me, and others, create a healthy home life for their families in a modern way using ancient techniques.
While I’ll regularly be sharing tips and recipes with you, I also want to give away a four pack of some of the most popular essential oils used today… that can help with everything from fevers to cleaning your home, naturally!
- Peppermint Oil – We use this oil daily! Many times I start my day by rubbing a drop or two on the back of my neck to wake me up and get me going. I’ll add a drop to my green tea, keep some in my purse for headaches (a little on the temples goes a long way!), in cooking and flavoring food, in my shampoo to promote energy and hair growth, in lipgloss as a plumper, in the diffuser to refresh the house and give us a burst of energy, and more.
- Lavender Oil – Lavender has long been regarded for it’s relaxing and calming effects, and though this is true and we use it in baths, in the differs and on our feet to relax, there are also so many more uses. I add Lavender oil to my mascara to promote healthy, long lashes and keep my tube free of nasty germs. Because Lavender is so soothing and healing, we use it for cuts, burns, scraps, etc. and watch skin heal quickly. I also like to use it with other skin issues like really dry skin and patches.
- Lemon Oil – Lemon is another oil that I use daily! I add a drop to my water bottle (glass bottles only!) to boost metabolism and promote detoxification… plus it tastes great! Lemon is great to break up congestion, as a spot blemish treatment, and I use it in almost all of my household cleaners… plus it even helps to whiten laundry!
- Melaleuca Oil (Tea Tree Oil) – To me this is one of the unsung heroes in the oil world. I remember my mom using Tea Tree Oil on me as a kid… for everything. And though it’s not my favorite scent it is so good… for everything. Because acts as a stimulant and helps the body fight off disease, bacteria, infection, virus and illness, it is used for colds and infections, treating almost any kind of skin issue or ailment, bad breath, allergies, coughs, dandruff… and really, just about everything.

I would LOVE to win these. I’ve been looking into oils and just haven’t taken the plunge yet. I suffered a miscarriage in the fall, so perhaps this would help with hormone regulation.

Awe, I totally understand!! Yes, I’ve been using them for hormones… and I’m actually making a hormone blend in a rollerball vial for myself this week so that it will be easy application every morning and night. I’ve been putting Clary Sage and Ylang Ylang on my feet, wrists and the back of my neck for that purpose. I’m SO sorry for your loss!!! I totally understand and am sending you hugs.

Love essential oils! I use them in my yoga classes, for cleaning, for baking even sometimes! 😀
