Have you sometimes found yourself wondering why sticking to your goals can feel like a constant battle? Maybe you set good intentions and set yourself up for good habits,, but then fail to actually stick to them in any sort of long-term or significant way?

We are talking all about how to shift from a limited and restrictive mindset to one that brings in choice and possibility, which will make your goals so much more achievable.
In this episode, I discuss:
- The restrictive and negative language we tend to use when talking about our goals, using words like “I can’t…” or “I shouldn’t…” which automatically makes us feel boxed in and like we’re making a sacrifice, as well as making the forbidden thing even more tempting..
- The language reframe I’ve started to use with my children – instead of saying ‘no more sweets today’, I can say ‘let’s save some so we have something to look forward to tomorrow’. This simple tweak opens up choice, opportunity and anticipation, rather than creating something off-limits – and it applies to adults too!
- With new year just around the corner, now is the perfect time to start retraining our brains to think in this more positive way.
- Some examples in life where this can be so powerful – whether it’s with diet and shifting from thinking about what you’re restricting yourself from eating, to reframing it as ‘I am choosing to eat something that fuels and nourishes me’ – to working and shifting from thinking ‘I can’t take any breaks, I’m so busy’, to thinking ‘I’m choosing to do deep work now to allow time for rest later.’
- By focusing on the outcome you want and the benefits and beauty of your end goal, those feelings of restriction fade away and you’ll feel more motivated, empowered and free within your choice.
- Some of the ways you can make this shift a regular part of your mindset, including being aware of the words and phrases we use around our goals. Our language is so powerful and can have such an impact on our lives, so use them wisely!
