Do you constantly feel pulled in every direction apart from the one you want to walk in? Do you feel overwhelmed, overtired and in a constant state of stress? If so, you are not alone. In a world where saying ‘yes’ often feels like the default, mastering the art of saying ‘no’ can truly be a superpower.
In this episode, I’m talking about the transformative journey of embracing imperfection, setting boundaries and reclaiming your power through the simple act of saying ‘no’. Protecting your ‘yes’ and perfecting your ‘no’’ not only sets limits but also honours yourself, keeps you loyal to your own principles and values, preserves your wellbeing and unlocks your true power and potential.
And stay tuned to the end when I’ll be sharing the exact phrases you can use to start you on your journey to perfecting your ‘no.’
Table of Contents
In this episode, I discuss:
- Reframing mistakes and failures as “expensive lessons” and the beauty of embracing your imperfections.
- How by embracing saying ‘no’, we can make space and create margin for things to come into our life that we do want to say a full yes to.
- People pleasing and how we so often equate being nice to saying ‘yes’, when actually the more authentic and more honest thing to do in a particular instance might be to say ‘no’.
- The value in tolerating the discomfort of saying ‘no’ and how, when we find ourselves saying yes when deep down we want to say no, we are actually trading this one moment of discomfort for days (or even weeks!) of prolonged discomfort of doing something that isn’t truly aligned with us.
- The importance of gaining clarity on what our boundaries and our limits are, enabling us to effectively communicate them to others. Having boundaries doesn’t shut people off or put off a wall, rather they enable you to stay loyal to yourself, which in turn minimises overwhelm and stress. Are you being loyal to the principles you set for yourself?
- Simple phrases that you can use to start using today to practise perfecting your ‘no’, including “I can’t commit to this….”, “this isn’t aligning for me in this season right now…” and, a great one to get you started, “let me get back to you…” which buys you a moment of pause before you consider your answer.
