Because so many of you lovelies asked about this photo of my girl jumping without abandon into the deep blue of our pool, I thought it only natural to what becomes of that jump.
No belly flops here.
This girl swims like it was something she was meant to do. Echoing daily, Let’s go in the swimmin’ pool! And why not, she’s a total Rockstar out there.
My favorite is when she decides to make up special moves and pull out different poses to see if she can get us laughing, and then each time she swims her little swimmer body over to the side and climbs her way out, throwing those long limbs up onto the cement she asks, How many more times till we hafta’ go inside?
Mama’s little girl, in every way. Both of us swimming like little fishies at the age of three, and both of us drink up every little bit of summer we can take.
And speaking of summer, other classic summertime preparations are underway in the Blue household tonight. I love July 4th. The preparations. The patriotism. The fireworks. Rummaging through the closets to find all of our good ole’ red, white and blue.
And digging through my stash of favorite OPI hues trying to find the perfect match to that infamous “Old Glory Red” to make cute little girl toes and big mama toes a little bit festive.
And now, as I type this, I’m also humming my way through my kitchen, hearing an early firework pop off hear and there from the kids playing in the neighborhood, prepping dishes like bacon-wrapped cheddar hot dogs, smores-pops and the perfect standby Fourth of July cake. My mind bounces to the activities planned this weekend, from the parade walk to the pool party to the afternoon movie at the local theater, and I’m grateful. More than grateful even. And maybe it’s the post-natal hormones still workin’ there way back to normal or knowing the sacrifice that so many have made, but just thinking about what this weekend means brings tears to my eyes. Just knowing that my babies can grow up in a country that values freedom, where the possibilities are endless, and that so many put their life on the line to make that a reality makes me proud to be an American.
So tonight, we prepare. And this weekend, we celebrate.
Though I tend to think that the preparation becomes a celebration all in itself.

I love swimming, actually, I just love water, and so does my son. He took to water like fish too, we have swimming excellence in our family, so it was kind of natural. I know I have said this before, but I absolutely love your photos… I wish you lived near me so you can talk me through how you do it. I will keep at it today as we parade through our town for July 4th, hopefully I will be able to show some off on my blog soon…

That is impressive swimming for a 3 year old! Bravo! My kids are like me in the water (timid). Have a wonderful 4th of July. You may have just inspired us to paint our nails : )

My daughter was swimming at 2, but then I made the mistake of letting her tread water to long and she scared herself. So we took a year off.
I need to get her back into the water, its just hard finding a class that fits her age and skill…

Your girl is amazing. 🙂 of course having your own pool….really helps. Sugar get to a pool only a few times a year. sure doesn’t help her swimming abilities, but she is getting better. You girl is just awesome though. that is wonderful!
have a great 4th. Looks like your plans are coming together.

Such a sweet post Tabitha! My son has just become like me too, swimming like a fish and loving the pool. All I ever wanted to do when on vacay was go straight to the pool. Now I love just going in the backyard.
At 6 he has just braved the slides so I am actually looking up cool Orlando hotels to stay at just so we can experience some waterfalls and slides and a little local getaway.
