Happy Independence Day from my family to yours! Cheers friends to this holiday where we gather over good food, drinks and summer games to celebrate our freedom… a freedom for which I’m so grateful to raise my family in.
If you’ve got a gaggle of friends headed your way and need a quick drink, just stack the colors for a big impact! For this red, white and blue drink, I started with blue Gatorade (the higher sugar content, the more dense it will be for “stacking”) and filled a glass about 1/3 of the way. Then I just placed the glasses in the freezer for a little bit while I puttered around with other things… you know, four kids, laundry, making snacks, the usual. After removing from freezer, the key is to gently place ice in the glass and then slowly top with the red drink. If you pour quickly, the colors will mix and make a pretty purple drink (which is fun too, just not the goal here). Once the colors are successfully layered, top with a straw, and maybe a star shaped ice cube for fun and serve!
These were so fun to make and the kids really loved them too! Of course, you can make it with whatever drinks, flavors and colors you have on hand, spiked or not. Just have fun with it, and friends, have a fun-filled and safe holiday!
