I’m sure that all of us are aware that our homes are full of crazy little creepy, crawly things. Just the thought of it makes me shudder. Now, there’s no need to freak out, because it’s the nature (literally) of the world we live in, but really, there are things we can do about it. Most of it anyway. Starting with a few things you probably have in your home that need to be thrown out, ASAP.
On another note, since our move, or shall I say, since I began packing for our recent move, I’ve been into all sorts of cleaning, de-cluttering, reducing, simplifying, donating and tossing. Cleaning out things just feels good. So whatever your plans are this weekend, maybe you can take a short minute or two and toss a few things around your home that have hung around just a little too long.
Check out our recent video with SheSpeaksTV with a few things to toss right away.
5 Things You NEED to Throw Away Right Now
- Expired Makeup
- Old Towels – a great option is to donate to a local pet shelter.
- Your Toothbrush – the American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that you replace your toothbrush approximately every three to four months, or sooner if the bristles are frayed.
- Pillows – Bed pillows hide a buildup of body oils, dead skin, and dust mites, eww! “If you have a plain-old, inexpensive polyester pillow, you should be replacing it every six months,” says Michael Breus, Ph.D., a clinical psychologist and author of the book Good Night. “But if you have a memory foam pillow or any one with structural integrity, it’ll last you anywhere from 18 to 36 months.”
- Those Free Wire Hangers – They aren’t doing your clothing any favors, toss them and get a few hangers that will help your clothing last.
If you end up cleaning out your makeup stash, check out this post on how long each item should linger in your vanity and some tips on sorting and organizing it all! And while you’re in the tossing mode, a few other things that it wouldn’t hurt you to throw in the trash can are your kitchens sponges (You do replace those often right??… A few drops of lemon oil and a couple minutes in the microwave will help to sanitize in the meantime.). Oh and old spices too. Spices only last a few years or less, so if you’ve got the same spices since college, it’s time for an upgrade. Most won’t hurt you if used past the expiration date, but the flavor will have changed or greatly diminished. So toss those expired bottles.
On that note, happy cleaning and happy Friday friends! Do those two things go together? I think sometimes they can 😉
What about you, do you have any fun plans for the weekend? Besides throwing away a few things of course!

I’m getting rid of a bunch of old clothes this weekend that we have either outgrown or no longer wear! We also need to replace our pillows… and towels… thanks for the great video and reminder! 🙂

I just purged my son’s room and bathroom before sending him off to start college summer term. When I told him to toss his toothbrush and we would get a new one he asked me why. I then realized I had been throwing out and replacing toothbrushes for him his entire life every 3 months and he obviously never noticed. Clearly I will need to mail a new one to him at school every 3 months or it will never happen 🙂

Haha, well good for you for doing it… and yeah it probably won’t happen without you!
