Breastfeeding can be a challenge for any new mother, but twins are a unique experience altogether. After breastfeeding 4 separate babies, tandem breastfeeding twins was still a hurdle even I needed to overcome. But with my Amazon essentials for breastfeeding twins, I made it through.
And that precious time goes faster than you think.
My sweet baby boys became toddlers faster than I wished, so my sincerest recommendation is to enjoy the special moments between mother and infant while you can. There is nothing more bonding than breastfeeding.
Making your feeding sessions easier is essential to quality time with your babies.
Keep reading for my list of Amazon essentials for breastfeeding twins that may make all the difference for you too.
Table of Contents
1) Elvie Breast Pump
I used the Elvie single electric wearable smart breast pump. It’s convenient, hands-free, and uses a great app. It’s so easy it can fit right into your bra.
There are no cords.
And the simple to use app keeps track of your pumping history and volume. This feature is great for new, somewhat overwhelmed mothers of twins.
2) Milk Flow Drinks
I can’t say enough good things about UpSpring, and especially their “Milk Flow” lactation supplement drinks. They help promote a healthy breast milk supply with naturally-sourced herbs (fenugreek, blessed thistle, and anise).
My particular favorite flavor is the milk flow coffee—and yes, it does have a small kick of caffeine for this coffee-loving momma—that you can serve hot or cold. These easy packets mix in water whenever I’m in need. I recommend using this as part of your snack while tandem breastfeeding.
If you aren’t a coffee fan like me, another great option is a Mother’s Milk Tea. It has the same lactation support without the coffee taste or caffeine.
3) My Brest Friend Pillow
If you are planning on tandem breastfeeding your twins, I highly suggest that you invest in a quality twin-friendly breastfeeding pillow. My Brest Friend Pillow is specifically designed to help mothers have better posture during breastfeeding and alleviate strain on their back, neck, and arms.
It is big, adjustable, and has a convenient pocket that was helpful to hold a drink or phone. This pillow is definitely an Amazon essential for breastfeeding twins.
4) Nursing Pads and Reusable Nursing Pads
Okay, momma, you need these. If your twins are your first babies, then you may not realize how uncomfortable (or embarrassing) it can be to have a breastmilk leak.
Green living is important to us, so I recommend using reusable nursing pads that are easily tossed into the wash. But when I’m a mom on the go, I will put disposable nursing pads in my purse. They are individually wrapped and have sticky on the back, so I don’t have to worry about them shifting out of place while I am more active.
Especially while breastfeeding twins, a breastmilk leak can saturate your bra and shirt quickly. Just make sure you always have extra nursing pads for a quick switch on hand.
5) Organic Nipple Butter
I love the Organic Nipple Butter Breastfeeding Cream by Earth Mama. This particular nipple butter is 100% USDA certified organic and made with ethically sourced organic beeswax. But best of all, it has no petroleum, parabens, or lanolin and doesn’t need to be washed off before nursing.
The soothing herbs help relieve crack or dry skin, and it’s so safe that I use it on everything (not just nipples)—even on the baby.
6) Nursing Bra
Alright, girl, go ahead and get yourself a few nursing bras. I realize, during your pregnancy, you may have already purchased some new bras a size or two up, but they aren’t the same thing.
As your milk comes in, chances are your breasts will increase in size yet again. But regardless of how comfortable and supportive a nursing bra is, it’s also very helpful. Nursing bras allow easy access for breastfeeding and pumping via a quick-release clip at the top.
With twins, anything quick and easy is a plus.
7) Nursing Tanks
Similar to nursing bras, nursing tanks are a great convenience when breastfeeding twins. The easy access clips enable breastfeeding without lifting or fussing with your clothing.
Nursing tanks are also stylish. After all, it’s a fashion basic. You can layer your nursing tank with a button-down or sweater jacket for a variety of looks.
8) Reusable Water Bottles
Water is so important to successful tandem breastfeeding twins. So, drink, drink, drink. It is helpful to have reusable water bottles for all that drinking.
9) Lactation Cookies
Last but not least is a special milk-producing treat every mommy can appreciate while breastfeeding twins. You will need to eat extra calories anyway.
Lactation cookies are a great way to get those calories with nutrients that support milk production. And momma, you deserve a treat.
10) Breast Shields
I never used breast shields, but I guess I should have. All of my mom-of-twins groups recommended using breast shields or breast shells to protect your sore nipples. Essentially, they are silicone domes that protect your aggravated skin from rubbing clothing.
These Medela Breast Shells have small air holes to aid with healing and small sponges to catch any breastmilk leaks.
