Plan a Special Breakfast
Start the day off right with a delicious Easter breakfast. You can prepare a traditional Easter breakfast such as hot cross buns, pancakes, waffles, or an Easter ham, or you can try something new like a breakfast casserole or crostini. A tip for mom: get the whole family involved in cooking and decorating the table with Easter-themed decorations like pastel-colored tablecloths, bunny-shaped plates, and egg cups. Check out this post for some of the Easter Brunch Ideas we’ve tried in the past.
Create an Easter Egg Hunt
No Easter celebration is complete without an Easter egg hunt. Create a fun and challenging egg hunt for the kids (and adults!) in your family. You can hide eggs in the yard or in the house, depending on the weather and space available. We like to fill our eggs with a variety of candies, coins and stickers or temporary tattoos.
Decorate Easter Eggs
Decorating Easter eggs is a timeless tradition that the whole family can enjoy. You can use traditional egg dyeing kits or try something new, like using natural dyes made from vegetables or spices. Get creative with the decorating by using stickers, glitter, paint, or even temporary tattoos. If you’re really in a pinch just pull out the markers and have them color them.
Attend a Sunrise Service
Many churches offer sunrise services on Easter Sunday. Attending a sunrise service is a beautiful way to welcome the new day and to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It’s also a great way to start the day with a sense of gratitude and reflection. I often like to dress us all in coordinating outfits just in case we have the chance to get a family photo taken.
Watch an Easter Movie
There are many great movies that celebrate the spirit of Easter, such as The Passion of the Christ, VeggieTales: An Easter Carol, Hop, Veggie Tales: ‘Twas the Night Before Easter, etc. You can gather the family together and watch one of these movies or any other Easter-themed movie that you enjoy.
Make Easter Crafts
Get creative and make some Easter-themed crafts with the family. You can make Easter cards, decorations, or even a fun Easter basket. Here are two of our favorite Easter DIYs one that’s fun to eat after creation Chocolate Easter Bunny Rice Krispies and one that hols the yummy treats Bunny Candy Jars.
Plan an Easter Scavenger Hunt
A scavenger hunt is a fun way to celebrate Easter morning with the family. Create a list of clues that lead the family on a fun adventure around the house or yard, with each clue leading to the next until they reach the final prize.
Have an Easter Picnic
If the weather is nice, consider having an Easter picnic outdoors. Pack a basket full of Easter goodies like sandwiches, fruit, cookies, and drinks, and find a scenic location like a park or a beach where you can enjoy a relaxing picnic together. Or, as you all know, I love making breakfast and charcuterie boards and I think they are perfect for a backyard picnic. This Pancake Board is an example of one that my kids really loved. And if the weather isn’t great, set up the picnic on your living room floor just make it comfy with lots of rugs and blankets add some pillows.
Read Easter Stories
Take some time to read some Easter stories with the family. You can read traditional Easter stories like “The Story of Easter” or “The Tale of Peter Rabbit,” or any other stories that celebrate the themes of spring and renewal.
I love that Easter is a time to come together with loved ones and to celebrate the joy and hope of the season. Whether you’re hosting a family gathering, attending a church service, or simply enjoying a quiet morning at home, there are many ways to make Easter extra special. I hope you use these ideas as inspiration and create your own traditions that will make this Easter a day to remember.
