I love fashion. Not that I feel I’m totally fashion forward, which is why I rely on friends in the industry and good ole’ Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration, but I like to pretend, play dress up and have fun with mixing, matching and trying new things.

I used to live in heels, spend time actually applying makeup and messing with new hairstyles… and then I went and had kids. So now, I still play here and there with new looks for myself, but mostly? I like dressing my littles (when they let me, that is). My “teenage” six year old isn’t always game.

When Gymboree asked me to style a few looks featuring some of their spring fashions for kids, I didn’t have to think twice about my answer. And the best part? My kids were totally on board!
It’s a good thing they were on board too, because then this mama didn’t have to send them overboard in these playful adventurous looks and nautical picks we loved once we stepped foot in our nearest Gymboree store to start shopping.gymboree6gymboree2
A couple of our favorites were the Bow Pleated Dot Short for Aliyah and the Engineer Stripe Cargo Short for Brayden (both on sale now!). We also picked up a couple of shirts in stripes and plaid for Brayden to put together for the “mixed media” look that is hot this spring, and an adorable striped romper for Aliyah from the Blooming Nautical collection.
This spring, bright and bold looks are SO in, pops of color and bold patterns. And so I ask this… what is bright to you? Sometimes I think it’s the understated pops of color, like the hot pink buttons on this striped romper, that I prefer. And also, I’m so in love with stripes, can you tell? Oh, and polka dots too.
For these playful adventure looks we added in our own pieces from the kid’s closet like Brayden’s denim shorts and green canvas shoes from Baby Gap and for Aliyah we added a striped shirt from Gap, denim vest from Target and blue Converse style sneaks. For the nautical inspired look, Aliyah’s sandals are from Target (I think) and Brayden’s white shirt is from Children’s Place while his anchor hat, brown belt and sandals are from Gap. (All from previous collections that we already owned.) We also threw in a flower pencil from Anthropologie and vintage binoculars that we turned into necklaces with a little twine. It’s all about the fun details and “making it work!” A little motivation a la Tim Gunn.
Hopefully, this post inspires you for spring… by adding just a couple of new pieces into your current wardrobe, you can hop right on into this season’s fashion.

And if this wasn’t enough cuteness for you yet, take a minute and watch this video…

Stay tuned for some excitement coming YOUR way this week!!!
