Chicken and Waffles Breakfast for Dinner
An awesome way to make your waffle board feel more like dinner is creating a spin on chicken and waffles. Using a package of frozen breaded chicken makes it so easy. Simply bake and enjoy.
Follow these easy directions to create your chicken and waffle board:
- Start by washing and preparing your fruit. Also, set out the butter to warm at this time.
- (Optional, if you want to add meat) Bake the chicken (follow package directions).
- While the chicken is baking, make the waffles.
- When the chicken is finished baking, turn the oven down to 200°F. Keep the cooked waffles and baked chicken in the warm oven while you arrange everything on the board. Place the bowls of yogurt, granola, and chocolate hazelnut spread on the board.
- Warm the maple syrup in a decorative pourer and place it on, or near, the board.
- Cut the warm waffles into quarters and arrange them (and the chicken) on the board. Tuck in muffins for support or in large empty spaces.
- Garnish with the fresh fruit.
- Serve your chicken and waffles directly while everything is warm. Yumm-o!

Tips on How to Cook With Kids for Family Night
When it comes to cooking with kids it’s very important to think ahead first, and then to live in the moment. You could do a waffle board on your own and save time, but I intended to have a fun family night. These tips will help you get organized and to maximize the fun during your breakfast for dinner family night.
1) Plan Ahead
Be sure to have all of your ingredients before you start. This will avoid a stressful moment if you have a surprise partway through your cooking.
Also, use aprons or have the children in clothing you don’t mind getting messy. Do whatever you need to have a stress-free experience. Everyone will enjoy it so much more.
2) Expect a Mess
Be aware of your personality type. When you’re cooking with kids it’s time to let go. Messes happen, and it’s all part of the experience. Your child isn’t intentionally being messy it’s just part of the learning process.
3) Take Your Time
Speaking of the process, be sure to enjoy this special time with your children. Creating your waffle board will mean more to them than actually eating it. Expect that cooking may take longer than usual.
Keep yourself in the right frame of mind to not sweat the small stuff.
4) Teach Food Hygiene
Now, more than ever, it’s important to teach your children healthy habits. Be sure to talk about cleanliness, salmonella, and other food safety topics.
5) Teachable Moments
Older children can help read the recipe and find ingredients. Talk about the different steps to the recipe and who will do what. This sets an expectation that will detour disagreements.
As you are cooking be sure to build vocabulary by using correct terms. Cooking is a great opportunity to learn science, math, and even geography as you talk about matter, measuring, and the origins of the meal.
6) Have Fun
Relax.
This is my one, and most important, word of advice. We miss out on so much with our children as we fill our days, all while striving for perfection.
To enjoy life with your child surrender.
Let go of the hurry, worry, and perfection. It’s time to be messy and make mistakes.
Allow yourself to be silly. It will free your spirit and open your heart to the joys of childhood.
