Imagine your life as a journey or a road trip, with winding roads, unexpected detours and beautiful destinations along the way, and now ask yourself this – who is behind the wheel? Are you the driver of your life, or have you been taking a back seat as the passenger, letting external forces dictate where you’re headed?
Today we are exploring what it means to take the driver’s seat in your life and how you can shift from being a passive passenger to an active driver.

In this episode, I discuss:
- Sometimes in life there are external forces that cause us to change direction or take a detour, but there are also times when we need to be the one to take control and choose when to pivot.
- Change isn’t always about fixing a situation or changing what’s wrong, it can also be about seizing an opportunity and leaning into the things that light you up.
- Some questions to ask yourself to help identify if you’re in the passenger seat of your life include:- do you have clarity around your goals and a sense of purpose? Do you find yourself blaming others for your circumstances or situation? Are you fearing change and scared to step out of your comfort zone?
- You get the chance to choose your journey, to control where you go, how you get there and where you visit on the way!
- Actionable steps for how to take back control and get behind the wheel on the journey of your life, including creating a clear road map to follow to help you achieve your goals and get to where you want to be in life. One way of doing this is by creating a vision board to get clear on the destination.
- Laura Vanderkam’s article titled ‘There’s a better way to reclaim your time than quiet quitting’ discusses the benefits of adding something to your life, even when this might feel counterintuitive if you’re already feeling overwhelmed and overloaded. But by adding additive strategies that require action, it adds an element of excitement into your life and forces you to get behind the driving wheel.
Life is too short to be a passenger! When you decide to get into the driving seat and take messy, imperfect action, taking back your power and shaping your dreams, you’re opening up a whole new exciting journey in front of you.
