Do you feel like you have passions in your life and activities that light you up, but you’re not quite sure what to do with them or how to make the most of them? Or perhaps you do have a career that allows for your passion, but you find it hard to show up when you’re lacking motivation and inspiration?
Today I am joined by Rita Vicari, creator, visual artist and mentor at the Milan Art Institute, whose work has been showcased in exhibitions across the globe, from New York to Moscow.
In this episode, Rita shares her inspiring story of how she pursued her passion in art and crafted it into a career, and shares her advice on what steps to take if you’re looking to pursue a passion of yours and perhaps even forge it into a career. We also discuss the juggle that so many of us face when it comes to balancing family life alongside work, and what to do when motivation is lacking, but you still need to show up and get the job done.
Table of Contents
In this episode, we discuss:
- Rita’s story of pursuing her creative passions and desire to express herself, and how this led to her work as an artist.
- The importance of having someone in your corner to support you. Rita speaks to the support of her husband who encouraged her to keep going when she wanted to give up, reminding her of everything she had invested along the way and recognising how important her passion was to her.
- How there will inevitably be obstacles to overcome along the journey of pursuing your passion, and the importance of keeping going in the face of these, especially when you’ve already invested time, money and energy in this pursuit – Rita shares the mantra “you didn’t come this far just to come this far!”
- When inspiration is running low, you need discipline and a good work ethic to fall back on to be able to still show up for yourself and get the work done, even on those days when motivation is lacking. As Rita says, “the muse finds you working.” To hear more about the power of taking messy, imperfect action (even when you don’t feel like it!), check out Episode 18 – Four Benefits Of Taking Messy, Imperfect Action When You Feel Stuck in Life
- The juggle of balancing family life and work life, and the need to separate the different sides of your personality to enable you to wear the many different hats that life requires! We also discuss the importance of having a support system, and honouring yourself by asking others for what you need, so that you can free up space and energy to fully focus on your passion or the work in hand.
- The steps you can take if you want to make more of your passion – Rita speaks to the power of community and immersing yourself in groups with like-minded people who share your passion, as well as embracing resources on offer where you can self-teach yourself (eg, with YouTube videos) to nurture your talents and passions.
- The power of hard work over talent! Talent may be god-given or genetic, but it’s hard work that puts value on everything you do.
